Unfortunately either rack is limited by the strength of the tail end (which is limited to 7 lbs) unless you go with a Cyclerack or other kind of rack that is designed to carry more.

LT thanks for the info.
Hmmm....7lbs isn't much. I had hopes for maybe double that.
I did see the Cyclerack units. If I need to spend a little more so be it.
Would you by chance know what a Cyclerack would be rated at?
I guess the Cyclerack would also make for a good grab point when needing to 'yank' on the TW when getting unstuck?

It can hold more on the street, but once you load it up and go bouncing around off road, that's when the problems start. Not sure what the Cycleracks are rated at, but we have folks loading deer on them and riding out, so that says something. I believe they guarantee them forever too. And yes, you can use them to yank the bike around.

Nothing wrong with fabricating your own rack since commercial offerings are so limited for the TW. Here are a few simple yet strong home grown examples:
there is actually a rack under the bag, an aluminum plate between under seat cyckerack mounting points and a frame extension just aft of fender.

I'm fairly new here. But just wanted to offer another option. I had some trail90 parts bikes laying around and after looking at the prices of manufactured racks for these things, I thought I'd make a little DIY one. I'm not very good at instructional stuff, but I am happy to answer any questions. I used bar stock aluminum to tie everything in to the frame. I will try to attach enough pictures so you all get the idea of what I have done. I realize not everyone has access to a trail90 rack like I did, but its another option none the less. Thanks for looking. Vehicle Bumper Auto part Wheel

I studied racks a little. Even searched for videos of people using them for adventure type riding where they carried all their gear.

The factory rear is rated at 7 lbs. Moose expedition rack is no stronger than the factory rear at 7 pounds. The man rack ties into the frame well in 2 ( I think, have seen no mounting pictured.) locations. Cycle rack ties pretty well and attaches to the frame under the seat and also to the upper foot peg mount. What I saw on some videos as that the cycle racks when loaded heavy break and can also cause failure of the bike frame. Guys down in Mexico finding welders to weld them up for em. I heard or saw somewhere that Cycle Racks doesn't rate their racks.

I was to be able to take a tent, sleeping bag, similiar equipment to what a backpacker might carry on their back. A little extra fuel. So

I found an older Moose Expedition rack with painers mounts on Ebay. I was not for my year of 2018. I recieved it a few days ago. Began install. I have cut the right side bar that goes from the upper foot peg to the front of the panier rack apart. I am reconfiguring as it would not fit. I have it tacked together and will weld up this week.

I am planning to add another support bar but have not worked out the details yet.

I
Basically I want to attach at every location possible. Stengthen up as much as possible.

I can't see starting a new thread for this...

I have the cycleracks mounted now, but need side racks.

Question is has any mounted the Happy Trail side racks with cyclerack.
They both use the same foot peg hole and not too sure about the top bolt connection for it.

Or should I just get Happy Trail top rack also?

I need mount the roto-pax on the tail rack, but not laying flat like the HT rack wants it to.

installed a cyclerack on my bike last night fit perfect and well made.
Welcome, Elkslayer! :eek:ccasion14:

The cyclerack is a great add-on, and easy to install.

After I got one for my bike, a friend wanted me to put one on his bike. I told him, "Sure, I'll bolt it on... but you've got to take the packaging off yourself!"

Unwrapping it was a bigger job than bolting it on! :laughing6:

I tried buying a Moose rack for my TW here in Canada, but found that a problem. So I bought some pre-bent pieces of 3/4 EMT, a piece of straight, a piece of tubing to fit inside the 3/4 as a gusset, and a piece of 1/8flat bar. Created my own rack. Had a piece of thin strong 90 degree bent sheet metal that I utilized to fit between the back seat and the fender plastic. I added a lower section to the rear so I can mount a Rotopax to the back behind my action packer... I made brackets that fit to the rear signal light mounts, and a small T bracket that sits on the rear stock plastic to support weight. The whole project cost me about 70 cdn. and was lots of fun to build. <I will try to add pictures now>
