i left out tuesday morning on my trip...it was close to 200 mile one way....had around 40 lb. of gear running on the highway at anywhere from 45-70 mph...was really amazed how she held up...came back home last nite with another 20lb. added and cldnt tell any differance! guess i was worried for no reason...lol...live and learn!! Just keep ahead on oil changes and valve adjustments if you're running like that and you should be good to go. Enjoy!

So since we are talking long rides and speed, what is the safe limit with the TW? I have gotten mine up to 55 mph, but above that is the 'red zone' which I have stayed out of for the most part. Can these little motors handle that speed in 4th or 5th for extended periods of time?

The "Red Zone" on the speedometer is a holdover from the "55 MPH" bull$#*% that was the law in the States for a while.

The red on the meter has nothing to do with engine RPM or any other mechanical limitation of the bike.



In fifth gear, with throttle WFO, the TW will run out of torque before it reaches the engines redline.



Watch the oil level, and know that high speeds hurt your fuel mileage.

If we had that 55 MPH speed limit back, we wouldn't need highway bikes -- we could ride the TWs anywhere we wanted and not have to worry so much about traffic running us over. I'd also get way better MPG in the motorhome...



Bart, what these guys said. I've had mine up to an indicated 70 MPH (once) and I have to do 65 just about every time I go for a ride. It violated my reality at first but the bike seems to handle it fine other than taking a serious hit on the MPG.

ive had the bike up to 120km/h flatland and 130km/h downhill, with a 47t rear sprocket. that being said, i also dropped my intake valve into the cylinder shortly thereafter. (at about 110 km/h) watch your valve clearances
