May/June Admirals Adventure Begins

We’ve only been home for about a month so it’s time to hit the road again.

Day 1-Morning walk somewhere in the Utah desert.

Trying out a new traveling configuration with the golf cart in the bed of the truck. Putting more weight in the back of the tow vehicle and less in the back of the TWhauler to help reduce trailer sway in heavy sea (wind) conditions. After yesterday’s conditions I’d say it’s working rather well. Not so scared at the helm now.

Wind deflection over the golf cart and TWhauler may also be helping reduce sway. Either way big improvement. Huge improvement. Biggest improvement ever… just ask anyone 😂

Good to here, so will you be able to use this configuration next winter?

Tried this configuration on a short camping trip a few weeks ago so trying it on a longer trip.
Hard to say for sure after only 1 day but that’s the hope. I’m using the truck toolbox between the bikes to store the stuff I had in the topper. Can put 3rd bike on hitch carrier if needed/wanted.

We will be headed out West this this year with a much simpler rig. Just a F-250 with a topper and the KLR on a hitch carrier. Your setup looks much better.

@admiral, Don't forget to put Pie Town on your list. The weather is finally great for Dubbin'! 😃

I don’t know if you’re camping out of your topper but we did that for a year. Raised bed to top of side panels and storage underneath. Got tired of having to haul all our gear and cooking supplies out every time we stopped overnight. Also it got hot trying to sleep in the back of the topper which is why we upgraded to campers. Still, you’ll have a ton of fun and adventures.

Plan is to visit my uncle in Denver late August then head north to Yellow Stone. Hope its cooler than Tennessee.

In August you’ll probably hit all the temperature extremes along the way. Less humidity out west so that will help.
For you and anyone else reading this, if you are traveling on I-80 between Salt Lake City and Wendover, NV look for The Knolls Recreation Area. It’s 2 miles off the interstate. Neat place for an overnight night stay and and can even ride the sandy OHV trails before bedtime or when you wake up in the morning. Cost is free if you have one of the annual passes and $10.00 if you don’t. Apparently it’s also free if you are a car camper and arrive late and depart early. 🤪

We are sort of winging this as it happens. That said any advice would be most welcome.

Yesterday was a travel and set up camp day. Thunderstorms late afternoon and again during the night. The boys (our dogs Fred & Roscoe) were as nervous as whores in Church because of the lightening & sky artillery. They pooped good on this morning’s walk about.
Freds back to normal now.

Camping in the Pinyon trees

I’ll take a ride in n an hour but on this mornings dog walk about I had to stop and smell the Cacti…with flowers 😁

Earlier that day, the riding begins.

I hope this trail is not directly related to Snowfox's thread on Rattlesnakes! It's only rated 3 so it can't be that bad right?

The trail may not have a venomous bite but it can have a nasty bite if you're not careful!

Well, this looks interesting and scary all at the same time!

I hope there is something on the other side!!

What's up with the "snake-themed" trails?

I feel the "constriction" setting in. I by-passed this by the way...it was a no!

Full on constriction. I tapped out! Hard NO! Took these guys on dirtbikes a long time to get up this little gem of an obstacle.

I turned around and headed back down the trail with my tailpipe between my legs whimpering as I went by every boulder.

Later that day Mrs. Admiral and I rode more in the RZR. Dangerous mine shafts are appropriately covered to keep the humans from hurting/killing themselves. Mrs. A's leg is still mending from the mishap back in early April.

Another mine with a tipped-over ore chute

More to come later.

Fred looks relaxed; we did enjoy getting up and seeing him sunning himself on our carpet, waiting for us to get up and hopefully get a treat. Roscoe must be enjoying his 3rd kick at life and it seems he learned not to run away in a thunder storm.
Found any more pet cemeteries on your travels?
That looks like perfect Scorpa riding territory not Scoob.

Roscoe told me to quit looking for pet cemeteries. We have visited a few pioneer people cemeteries so far.
My only real complaint so far this trip is our neighbors run their generator almost 24/7. Thankfully they’re not too close. Could be worse with the holiday weekenders invading the hills.
I’m sure you and the Scorpa would do better than me no matter what bike I was riding. If I wasn’t along and on Scoob instead of Eeyore, I might have tried it. But I knew I was in over my head with the big XT350. Seeing the other three riders struggling so much didn’t bolster my confidence either.

Roscoe had a pretty sad past before crewing with The Admirals. Makes the subsequent blooming of his personality and confidence a joy to see. Don't think he knew just how good life could be before becoming a traveling Adventure Dawg with the adventurous Admirals.

We were camped near the top of Casto Canyon last weekend. Rode Tropic Reservoir area TH and Fri and the Dutton side of the highway Sat and Sun. We're you in the area or down near Monticello?

We were camping/riding in the 5 Mile Pass Recreation Area. Left this morning heading for Kanab. Sand riding with the RZR this time.
