There was a member on this board who was customizing his TW that he purchased used. He originally had his scooter/motorcycle trunk mounted directly to his bike's luggage area before he purchased a cycle rack (or equivalent) and mounted it to that. Ultimately, he painted the bike black, I believe...

Well, I have a question for you, or for anyone who has done it.

I picked up one of those trunks last weekend and will probably mount it this weekend, and I was wondering, when you mounted it, did you mount it with the rubber pad sandwiched between the bike and the trunk, or did you remove the rubber pad? I can't remember what you said, and to be honest, it's too late, and I'm a little too tired to search the old board for the answer

Thanks,

Probably me. IIRC I removed it (going by this picture) as that made the attachment bolt holes available.

For the back bolt I used an existing slot in the plate, for the front two bolts I drilled holes in it.

From what I remember it should have been a little further back, as it was hard to remove the seat the way it was.

Yup, you were the one I was hoping would reply. I remember your bike via your avitar. Thanks for the instruction. I plan to hopefully mount mine this weekend, errands permitting

I hope the original poster is still around. This looks like the JC Whitney trunk, yes? I'm thinking of getting one to replace the miserable scooter trunk I have on my bike now. It was free from a friend who runs a scooter shop where they have those cheap Chinese scooters. The price was right, but the plastic is extremely thin and rather brittle and is now cracking all over where I have it bolted to the Cycle Rack. (you can kinda see it in my signature image)

I'd like to see about getting the JC Whitney trunk as a replacement and hope the plastic will be a bit more substantial (or at least not of the brittle variety). Would the mounting system supplied work on my Cycle Rack? Any other feedback on how the trunk has held up for you?

Mine has lasted fine over the summer, no problems:

I'd had one on my Vstrom for three years previously, also with no issues other than the red plastic fading (which I painted).

This is the larger of the JC Whitney's, I've heard the smaller one may not be as good.
