Has anybody on here ran the Muddy Butt race in St. Maries Idaho on their T-Dub? It is coming up May 20th and I am considering running the race for the fun of it if I can find a partner as it is a 2 man tag team race. 6 total laps 3 per rider and 6 miles per lap. I am a real green rider so I am wanting to know if anybody has experience with the race on a Tw-200 and if I should pass on this race until I have more experience. i will not be racing to win just riding to enjoy the experience.

That race didn't look too bad. I got good advice for mud racing. Get cheap foam like a sponge not styrofoam. Get some old fishnet stockings. Put the stockings on your fenders and slip the foam underneath it. Mud weighs alot after a while and you get fatigued. mud can't stick to foam it falls right off. Spray WD40 on other places you don't need to grip. We would even put a small block of sponge on our helmets. As you can see below its muddy races. Get a old pair of goggle lens and tape it to the front of your visor. This helps you avoid mud directly to your goggles by tilting you head down when you see a large mud puddle and a guy right in front of you. I use to do alot of endurance races. So we timed gas useage. We developed hand signals for need gas, change rider. Very vital in a race. we would also monitor riders. Wobbly head means the rider is worn out and needs to come in. When your worn out its hard to keep a good posture so wobbly head is the sign.

Great advice. I did not think it looked that bad either but when I did a search of the race on google there were some horror stories on there.

I'd do it. I've entered two races with my TW. They were not muddy, rather they were sand. Do it. Enter the race. You are competing with yourself and no one else. So guys fly past you...so what. So you're last...so what. So you finished...good for you, you're a winner in my book.

Do not ride above and beyond your skill level. Do not over ride the bike. Go your speed. I averaged 20 MPH my last race which was fast for me, but other guys were averaging 35-40 MPH. I didn't care. I finished and this year I wasn't last (last year I was last).

Do it. You'll get done and you'll be glad you did it.
