I am new to these bikes but am suprised how they seem to keep their resale value. Im looking at a 2003 with 10,000 miles on it. Back tire is shot and paint peeling off right side of swingarm near pivot. ( I have noticed this on a couple of them.) Bad paint? Anyway the Tank and plastics are almost perfect has a real nice rear rack and aftermarket skid plate. He wants $2000 for it, seems a bit high to me. I am also concerned about the 10K miles but maybe that's not a biggy assuming it's been cared for. He is the second owner and has only put about a 1000 miles on it.

Any comments on the price and miles appreciated.

Thank you!

Price really depends on where you live. You didn't say. Let us know where you are from and I'm sure several members from your surrounding area will help. Here in Wash. State that's not a bad price, my buddy bought his 2004 for 2200. 10,000 miles not that bad if it's been kept up with oil changes and such.

Good luck, it's a great bike.

I feel thats a little too high just because of the mileage. Price depends on what part of the country you live in, sometimes you have to take what you can get.

The peeling paint is due to the battery overflow hose leaking/dripping on the swingarm.

offer $1400. Point out rear tire and that swingarm will need removed for servicing/inspected,cleaned, and painted at least. Possible parts replacement. Brakes possiblly, while wheel is off with 'such high miles'? Depending on your negotiating skills, you'll end up at $1600-$1800. Good luck, TIM

"IF" the oil changes were done properly and valve adjustments done on time 10,000 miles are not that bad...... I have an 06 with 10,000 miles and it runs even better now that the first day I rode it home with 1 mile... The tire cost about $65 bucks, and the time involved with changing it............ It does sound like he ran it a lot harder than I did mine.............. My back tire looks as good as new yet................ I do NOT jackrabbit start every time.. The chain may need some help also......... Good luck.. These bikes are a riot. OMM.

Hey thanks everyone. I think I'm gonna hold off and look for a little nicer one with less miles. My local dealer has 2 2012's for $3850. That doesn't seem bad but after Ca. taxes etc I'll be over 4K easy.

Thanks for the feedback!

Just as a reference, I paid $1500 from a car dealer for my 03 with only 2350 miles on the clock. That was a year ago, maybe two.

see i paid $1500 for my 2000 with 8k miles on it...but it was the only used one i could find at the time...if you can get him down a bit on the price i would go for it

There are a lot of eyes on this site if you're in the market for a TW. It's probably the best place to put the word out if you're looking for one.

I paid $2800 for my 03 with 900klms(500miles)on it just over a year ago.It had never been off road and looked like it just came off the showroom floor.Considering a new one was 2 grand more plus 15% sales tax I feel I got a good deal.$3850 new would be a great deal up here in Canada however 2 grand for one with that many miles seems a little steep to me.Hang in there I think you can do better than that.

For the record, I bought my '06 TW200 for $2600 including $200 shipping from Craigs List. It had 605 miles on it. Bought it a few months ago. The original owner had messed with the carb since it had been sitting up so much I presume. He messed up the pilot jet, broke it, but my mechanic managed to installed a new jet. I spent quite a few more $$$ on the bike doing such as.... new tires, oil change, valve adjustment and 5wt fork oil in the forks and rear shock softer adjustment. Yes, the rear shock on my '06 is adjustable in 3 positions even though Yamaha seems to not know about it. Shock must be removed to adjust. After all that, not very much softer as I can tell yet.

Bike runs great with clean exhaust now, even though at first the choke had to be on for it to run all the time. One problem remains though, now the choke only kills the engine. Makes cold starting a little problem. This choke problem baffels my mechanic and me too. Have heard others have had a similar choke problem. Like that little bike. It is not my first....believe it or not, counting street, dirt, dual sport and 3 & 4 wheelers and scooters, it is about #45. That is not so many if you consider my age....76. Started with a Whizzer, then a Harley Hummer in 1951.

the good news is Cali is a hotbed for sweet low mile used TW's! I bought about 12 from Cali in 2012 ranging from 15 to 412 miles and 2007 to 2012's. I've already scored a primo 2009 with 72 miles in 2013 up near Sacramento (it was so nice I was gonna keep it for myself but I let a friend see it and they bought it on the spot!)if you can spend around $2700 to $3200 you can get a TW that's pretty much showroom new with well under 1000 miles.
