Stopped by Honda/yamaha dealer in Stockton saturday and tryed on fly trekker (flat black) helmet, fits good and looks nice but wanted different color and thats all they had. Found same AFX helmet online and ordered red strike color which will match my red frame/black plastics 89 tdub. Looking forward to riding without bugs hitting my cheeks and nose at 50 mph, it really stings when ur face is cold...LOL.

I opened a thread a while back when I discovered that "AFX has private-labeled the THH TX-26 helmet....and Fly has also!!!" I looked around and found an local on line shop that had the THH TX-26 and got a smart one with great graphics for 30% less including delivery than the Fly trekker hi viz monochromes in the stores.

I don't think anyone found a source of the THH in the states but for those who wan't the new Fly or AFX for a bit cheaper then it is worth a look. I reviewed it there and can tell you that it's great. But then if you don't have the $ just enjoy the ride since you are riding a TW not a helmet. But yes, its better in the rain and with bugs and in the heat of Africa.

yep, read ur post too and that made me decide to look for one. had trouble finding anyone who stocked the AFX or Fly trekker. wanted to try it on my head before ordering one and would have bought it there for a few more bucks if they had the color i wanted.

I've also been thinking of getting one of these. I currently have 3 regular motorcycle helmets (kbc & hjc) and was thinking of getting a mx helmet until I stumbled across these in a catalog. I have two questions for current owners:

1. How many positions can the faceshield be positioned in? One of my helmets can only stay at half way or fully opened while another has several notches to position it around 1" above the last.

2. The 37 vs. The 39? The 37 is the older/cheaper version? And it looks like the 39s visor is a little longer and sharper while the 37s is shorter and rounder. Is there an advantage to either?

JDubSC: Go with the 39. I have the 39 in flat black.

The 39's internal shape is different than the 37. The 39 is more oval to better fit the typical North American head. The sizing is true to size. Measure your head with a tailor's tape and follow the AFX guide. If you are between sizes or on the edge, they advise going with the smaller size.

Also, the 39's shield optics are improved. I have not experienced any distortion with either of my shields (clear and dark smoke). The only gripe I have is with the retaining clip for the shield. The extra shields should come with their own clips but don't, so you have to swap clips when you swap shields. I am gonna order a couple extra clips.

You can also wear MX goggles with the shield up or down on this helmet.

I have been very pleased with mine.

I just went on my first ride with my 39.

I have been riding with this fx-100...

My new 39 is very windy inside the helmet even with the visor & vents closed. I think I will keep using my old helmet for the winter and use the 39 for summer. As it is I'd need to wrap a scarf around my neck to keep the wind out.

Also the 39 won't fit in my cycle trunk. It's a couple inches taller then my old helmet.

Edit: 12/29/12

I was right, my 39 has become my summer helmet. My old fx 100 keeps the rain and cold out much better as well as fogs up less. No matter how I try and breathe the 39 fogs up fast.

A higher windscreen then my jimbo shield might help with the wind coming up thru the helmet bottom.

I tried one of these but it only helped a little with the wind coming in

I got my flat black AFX-39 in June. Iowa has been in a hot draught until recently and its been on my skull every day throught heat that would roast a turkey. I popped out the cheek pads to increase air flow and this is the coolest bucket I've ever owned. The quick-release strap is sweet too. A+ for form, fit, function, and style. Awesome value. I'd buy one again in a heartbeat.

I was wondering how the flat or gloss black would do in the heat. I liked both but decided to go with the strike red one in hopes it would be a tad cooler in the summer.

Has anyone ever had any problems with the shield opening at higher speeds? I have been thinking of picking up one of these. I'm leaning towards the FLY because, correct me if I'm wrong, it has a 'D' ring chin strap so you can still lock it to your bike?
