new handlebars

A great improvement, I changed the handlebars to Protaper High ATV bars. It immediatly goes from a childs bike to an adult bike, a big plus is standing on the pegs is much more comfortable. Next the Clark tank. Now a couple of questions, whats the best handguards that fit and anyone figure out a simple way to run soft bags with a Cycleracks rear rack? Also any calif TW owners that removed the smog canister, whats involved? I'll have the tank off so it's time.

Not much point in removing it. It causes no issues, does nothing to or for performance, only weighs a pound and keeps you from losing brain cells from fumes in your garage.

But if you just gotta ditch it, run a line straight from the carb to the tank fitting.
Hello 805Gregg,

The fuel evaporative charcoal canister doesn't effect performance. It's just a canister full of charcoal that captures fuel vapors that would otherwise escape into the atmosphere causing smog. Captured fuel vapors are then drawn back into the engine and burned.

If you insist on removing it, I'd be interested in buying the canister. Please let me know.

Thanks,

Marty

Did you have to make any mods like longer cables, etc. to get the pro tapers to fit? Is this an easy mod to do? Did you cut down (shorten) the bars any? Thanks. Capt D.

I had to re-route the front brake light switch cable and unclamp the front brake line and move it up in the clamp, not much. I didn't shorten them and it was easy to do. There is a couple of indexing pins on the switches, I just filed them off. The bars are about 2-3 inches higher and have more pull back. It's a much more comfortable position.

It blocks air flow to the cylinder, and looks like crap, I'll move the horn also.
