Hi everybody,

new member here. I have been following the forum for about a half a year now but decided to finally register. Currently I don't own a TW yet, but hope this will change as soon as possible. Reading the ride reports and looking at your pictures only makes me more impatient to get one.

Because I live in Belgium, it will probably be a 125cc because the 200 hasn't been sold here(or any country close to Belgium). Bit of a shame, but I'll be more than happy with a 125.

I hope I own one by this summer so I can post some ride reports from the Ardeche, a beautiful region in France I visit a couple of times a year. I'll be staying in one of the houses you see here.

Until then I'll let my thoughts drown in your ride reports from the most beautiful and impressive country in the world, hoping(already saving for it) one day I'll be able to visit it too. So my message to all you US citizens, get on your bikes, don't forget a camera and share the beauty with us.

Welcome! I spent most of the day on my TW200 today. I should have a ride report up later this week. I look forward to seeing some ride reports from you, also.

Checking my mailbox a few times a day, hoping to recieve a mail from the current owner of this TW

It's a 2001 model, has 12300km's (7642 miles)on it for €1000. I think it's quiet a bargain. Or am I thinking wrong here?

I'm probably to late with my reply
but if you bought it for 1000 euro it is indeed a bargain.

Normally it costs around 1500-1800 euro for a TW in this state so the price he is offering you is more than ok.

Shopowners ask around 2000-2500 euro for a TW this good but most of the time they throw up a year warranty with that.

Allright! I finally got an answer from the owner I talked about earlier. Yesterday I went over there to take a look and now I own a tdub!

Well... almost that is. I just need to fix a trailer and go get it. I sure hope to have it by next weekend.

It sure looked allright. No rust, dents or big scratches to be found. The only "down sides":

- there is a ± 1 inch crack on the engine cover right above the front sprocket. Looks like the metal was ripped apart.

- I think he used some kind of wrong paint on the exhaust, it has some pink-ish spots here and there so that will be painted again.

- the valves make a very light ticking sound so i guess i'll have to check their lash.

- the tires didn't look so bad, just the front tire showed a little more tiny "cracks" around the knobs.

It was the first time I rode a TW but it just felt right from the start. I thought I was riding my bicycle, expect without the pedaling. It just feels so light and agile.

I read that a lot on the forum before, but I never expected it to be this much fun. I just can't wait!

Now I just have 2 questions.

Does anybody have any idea on how the crack in the left engine cover might have got there? Maybe the chain broke and ripped it apart?

And am I able to ride on these tires for while or are the cracks clear signs of telling me I need to change them as soon as possible?

I'll get some photos online when I have it over at my place.

I'd certainly say replace the tires. If you dig around for a while, you'll see some well educated posts on why.

My brother's '91 has a hole right above the sprocket in that same engine case cover. Yes, we believe those to be when someone lets the chain either get too loose and come off the sprockets, or also if the chain were to break and bunch up in the case.

-Valve ticking is normal. It went away for me after a few oil changes.

-You can take a chance on the tires for a short time at low speeds offroad but they need to be replaced asap.

-As for the hole in the case, that'll teach the importance of chain maintenace. I would cut a piece of metal slightly smaller and weld or jbweld it in there. Grind and paint it, voila! Or if it doesnt bother you, just leave it alone.

-The muffler's easy. It can be a little bit tricky putting it back on without rubbing off the paint/powder. Cure it like the directions say and it will last a long time. I would do it twice to get a solid coat on there. Just use the right, temp rated paint!

Enjoy your new tdub!
