I know it's a lot cheaper to cobble together one from scratch, but it was an impulse buy while I was already getting a bunch of other stuff. Turns out the shackle on the lock they supply is too thin for it to engage the locking bar, and you can twist the whole thing right off with the lock in place.



Oh well. At least I'll have a dry place to keep stuff.

Maybe all it is supposed to do is look secure.

Mine works fine. You have to fiddle with it a bit to find the right spot so it is tight and the lock hangs straight down when you put the most pressure on it.
It's not specific to a motorcycle... it's the same PVC plug and lock you would put on a drain that you don't want someone to open. Procycle just put it together as a kit.
They sell the same exact one's in different diameters (lockable and non-lockable) at masonry and landscaping depot by my house. It's not designed to be Fort Knox.
You can rough-up the inside edges a bit with sandpaper to assure better adherence vs. vibration on the road. I would do that if yours is slipping. You don't want to find and empty tube after a rough ride.

i think it was elime, that once-upon-a-time, rode back 5 miles with me to find a screwdriver, crescent wrench and cap...

It's not that it isn't functional, it's that the lock they ship with it has a shackle that's too thin to make the locking bar travel limited enough to lock. Here it is in more detail, using a pencil as a substitute for a lock with a thicker shackle. Not a huge deal and easily remedied by getting a different lock with a thicker shackle.




Good tip on scuffing up the interior, I'll do that before it even gets mounted.

I gotcha.
I never really took that little lock that seriously. Kinda like the lock you'd get for free on airline luggage. Same with the "stash-box" license plate holder that I have that ProCycle sells to. More to inhibit the curious rather than a real thief who is going to get in either way.
In fact based on your demo a heavier-bigger lock might make a better hand-hold for someone to pull the darn lid off too, who knows?

I have real combo locks on my rack mounted Pelican where I would keep valuables like a GPS, Drone, etc. They would have to cut it off the Cyclerack to get it loose or take the whole bike. Can't lose sleep about it but making it less convenient sometimes helps.

Ironically these are TSA approved so any gangs of TSA employees that has that particular by-pass key can (I guess) open them.

FYI, The rubber on my end insert started getting hard and less springy - I was afraid it would pop/fall off on the trail - I attached string from insert to rear attachment and all is well. I will get a new insert from Home depot......eventually

Maybe also attach strings to the tools inside so they remain dangling from the bike along with the end cap. Clanking noises might then alert you that cap has come loose.:p

AgriSupply tool tubes are not without their own issues. Both gaskets on my original tubes have split in two after maybe 5 years. Fortunately local hydraulic, industrial supply and/or irrigation vendors should have acceptable replacements.
