OEM work about as well as any and are fairly priced from online parts suppliers. stadiumyamaha.com has pads for $26.23, rear shoes for $11.47, and front shoes for $17.20.

Brakes work by converting kinetic energy to heat energy. Aftermarket pads and shoes may be more efficient at doing so, but the question becomes one of if the OEM rotors and drums are capable of dissipating that extra heat quickly enough to avoid being damaged by that heat. Considering the values of materials in Japan, you can bet there isn't an extra ounce of capacity in an OEM rotor or drum on any of their products, bike, car, or lawnmower.
