There is a site glass on the right side of the crankcase. Hold the bike upright on level ground and look at it. Pretty simple.

Thanks.I don't know how I missed that.The oil is drained and I will finish up the oil change tomorrow.

Warm the bike up for 6-7 minutes at idle
Shut bike off and level the bike using some wood or phone books under the kick stand
Just get it level. Wait 3 minutes then look at oil sight window and make sure the level is inbetween the 2 marks
My 1989 tdub takes 1 quart and 1 half ounce after a filter and oil change


Tip: I use a small magnetic level on top of the cross bar on bars to get it
level

Also never check the oil level when the bike is really hot! You will get a high inaccurate oil reading. Oil expands when hot
