Photo contest #6 Truelight won the last contest, and he wanted

"I'm thinking I would like to suggest the subject for the next contest be "self-portrait." This would be a good way to see the faces of some of our members. Of course we also want to see a TW in the shot as well, so posing with the bike or maybe shooting into the mirror on the bike could work. If the member would rather not show their face, shots with helmet visors down or with googles on would be ok, or even distant shots would be acceptable. The only "rule" would be that both the forum member and their bike be in the shot."

So our submission should have your TW and it's human.

submissions will be taken until sunday 11/21/2010

The rules are the same as last time:

#1. It must be your TW

#2. It must be a recent photo

#3. It must be about the topic picked by the last winner.

#4. It must be a "clean" photo

#5. You can only submit one photo per contest

Have fun with this one, I know I will

I'm not submitting these as official entries as it's time to let someone else win this time (thanks for all the votes last time gang!). These are more to get your creative juices flowing..

Yikes! Faces like this are why many of us motorcyclists wear full face helmets!

Not really interested in entering, but, I got a couple from yesterday of me and the littlest one going for a ride. She's 5 and loves to ride.

And yeah, I rolled her pant legs down before we took off.

The oldest one and middle one ride by themselves.

In the backyard the day I brought it home.

I guess I should have clarified. This is the Alpine loop in Utah. It runs from Provo canyon, past Sundance Resort, then over to American Fork canyon and out to the town of Alpine/Highland. It's all a narrow (basically one lane) paved road. Nothing technical or difficult, just fun... sorry for misleading ya'll

Nice Dalsco. What all passes did you make and how'd the TW do on them?

Owtcast... What I wanna know is the story behind the photo in your avatar? It's kinda small to see, but that looks like your TW in your bedroom, leaning against the bed? Kinda like you sleep with it at night? Now... If you had a large photo like that with you in the bed next to the bike, you'd win this thing hands down! (I'd sleep with my TW too, but my wife might not approve!) -

As for the rest of you, I'm not seeing much more creative than a few family snapshots. I've seen some of your photography in previous contests, so I know we have some good "shooters" in the group. C'mon! Let's see your stuff!

owtcast, your daughters are too cute and too cool for words! I wish my dad had encouraged me to ride a bike when I was so little.

Ok... I apologize for my hiatus. As most of you know, the holidays are real hectic with young ones in the house.

Truelight, the story behind that picture is actually a funny one sort of. Not quite as entertaining as the one you imagined but crazy none-the-less. That "room" is actually the foyer to what once was the firestation I worked at. It was the one that ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition did after hurricane Rita destroyed it. Link to story. > http://blueeyesandbluebonnets.com/2009/06/sabine-pass

So after they re-did our firestation, you can tell they did a nice job of it. But a year and a half later, hurricane Ike found it's way to our doorstep and destroyed it again. The days before it hit, I had left my diesel truck at home fearing the dept. would want me to get the firetruck out of there at the last moment. (I predicted that one perfectly
) Anyway, I rode my TW to work so it could be hauled out when the time came by my co worker in his truck. I knew I was going to be at the firestation for three days prior so, I happened to think about bringing my new chain and sprockets with me to pass time doing maintenance on the TW. So what you see is the bike lying on it's side in the foyer with the primary case cover hanging off, propped up with a bench the designers made from an antique firetruck bumper we had laying around, and my tools scattered everywhere.
I was really careful not to make a mess with all the oil and such but, it was all for naught. 12 hours later there would be 9' of sea water where you see my bike sitting.

The original sized pic.

That same room 24 hours later.

A few more pics of some aftermath. http://s467.photobucket.com/albums/rr33/TXowtcast/hurricaneIKE/

I took most of them while riding the TW looking for my Catalina 22 sailboat.

I had it chained down on land, on the trailer but, other people's boats that weren't moored good enough crushed it.
I didn't do too bad though. My house is located inside a levy wall in town and I only had minor cosmetic damage. Lot's of people lost everything.

And..... that's how that picture came to be.

Oh and Sinophilia, thanks very much for the nice compliments of my girls. They are truly my world.

That is a truly very interesting story. Too bad these natural disaster things have to happen. I can't speak for truelight, but this was not how I had envisioned where the picture was taken that's for sure. Thanks for sharing, great story!

Outcast, your story inspired me to post a couple of pictures of when I went out to help after Hurricane Katrina, especially your fire station part. I will post them in the off-topic area.
