My airbox is toast, looking at pod filters, will it make water crossings harder? will it improve performance? any negative affects on engine?

The carb on the TW is set up to deal with a certain amount of air drag from the filter – the makers of “pod” filters know this, so the more reputable ones get it as close as they can. Close – but not quite

Like putting a “power exhaust” on there, or more accurately, a “noisy exhaust”, some minor tweaking may be required. Nothing major, and it won’t harm your engine, but if you are a perfectionist, sooner or later you will be tempted to fiddle about with the carb settings. Don’t forget, you will also need a smaller one for the engine breather (on top of the crankcases)

Then there’s the problem of the TW not having a centre stand – no big deal (or so you’d think) – until you park it up on the side stand in the rain, (at which point, both filters get soaking wet)

After reading through that thread (recommended), you will also see two additional phrases come up repeatedly – “venturi effect” – and “snorkel”

So (assuming you have now done your reading), you will see that the “pod” filters are good for hollow mod builds, crap at trail work, and best not used in the rain (although there are plastic shields that can help with that) ……
