Hey guys,

New here but will be around more once I have picked up a bike. One popped up for sale today that is a '94 with 1,670 miles. They are asking $1,550. I'm not in love with the color scheme but it appears to be in great condition. What would you guys be willing to pay for this year and miles?

Thanks

That is about right. It does depend on the condition. An engine and trans can be ruined in 1,600 miles. Also: has it been sitting for a long time. Cleaning and/or re-building the carburetor costs money unless you're the mechanic.

If its in acceptable condition, I'd buy it. I don't know how much you know about them but TW's are easy to maintain and easy to ride. $1,500.00 is about as cheap as you will find one worth buying.

Hi Team,

Welcome to the forum! The main factors that determine what each of us is willing to pay for a TW are:

1) How much money we have.

2) How badly we want a TW.

3) The availability of TW's in your area.

4) The condition of the TW you are considering.

5) How long you are willing to go without a TW while looking for a better deal.

There will always be somebody who has found a nicer bike for less money, so don't worry about other people's opinions. If you want a TW, and have found one you like in good condition that you can afford, I'd say go for it. That way you will be out riding sooner and not sitting around waiting on a better deal. As long as you take care of a TW, it is unlikely that you will lose much money on it - especially considering the enjoyment that they provide.

Hope this helps,

Brian

Do you recommend a milage to where the transmission has to be replaced, if not the engine? I thought TWs were practically set for the long run if used within it's limits

I believe the point that fishguy is making is that mileage alone does not tell you everything. I would rather buy a high mileage bike that had regular oil changes than a low mileage bike that had never had its oil changed. As fishguy says, an engine and tranny can be ruined in 1,600 miles (or less!) if it is run low on oil, if oil filter is clogged, if air filter is damaged, etc.

If a TW is well maintained and not abused, it should run indefinitely.
