Profile Picture ????

I thought I might fill in a few blanks in my profile so you would feel like you know a little about me and in trying to post a picture there ,I find that my pictures are all too big by a mile. They can't be any bigger than 50kB and mine are 500 to 700 and that is with my Kodak Easyshare. Maybe you can help me understand what I don't understand and get me ready to post more TW pictures as I get them, Thanks in Advance.

Oh Yea, One more thing,

I know the Photo Contest(#8) has ended, but if I can get back to where I was at last Friday,(with A camera), I would like to post a picture with one of my brand new tires in the water, So any help in posting picture here would also be appreciated. Thanks Again,

Ya I here ya! I'm frustrated! Been trying to load an avatar and there all too big. I tried to resize with no luck. I spent a couple hrs last night on it and a couple more this morning. I'm loosing it!

Rich

Hay wait! It worked lol! I use photobucket for posting picks and you can edit the size of your picks but it kept saying too big when I would try to load. Eventhough it said too big, my avatar loaded? wierd?
You can download this little application from Microsoft <-- This link takes you to an .exe file. If you want to read about the file before you download you can go here (the link is on the right side 3/4 down the page)

It will add a menu item that allows you to right click on a picture and resize it. I love this app as it makes changing sizes on pictures a very simple task.

It has 3 default sizes and the option of a custom size, and it will either create a new image with new size or allow you to overwrite. You can also select several images at the same time and resize them all.

Very useful.

I don't know what just happened there.
, BUT, Thank you for the tip, Boret. Got it loaded, downsized the picture and after a couple of tries it seemed to have loaded very quickly,BUT it failed to upload and the note said notify an administrator. Do you think computers get disgusted with people and throw their arms in the air? Keep me going here.????? I did make it back to where I was last Friday and got a picture I would like to share.

There might be a limitation on picture upload vs number of posts. Not sure.

I use my own server for pictures but you can easily setup a photobucket account for free and use it to post your pictures in any forum. Most forums won't allow you to upload large pictures because they consume quite a bit of bandwidth (when they are displayed to other users of the forum) and bandwidth can get very expensive.

Here is a tutorial on how to use Photobucket and how to post pictures in a Forum.

As far as the profile picture you have 2 limitations, one is size as far as pixels and the other is size as kb that it uses up in your hard drive.

For the Avatar (the image on the left side under your screen name) these are the values:

Your avatar must be no bigger than 200 pixels by 150 pixels in size.

Uploaded avatars from your computer must be no larger than 50 KB.

The following file types are allowed: gif, jpg, jpeg, png

For the profile picture:

This section will allow you to specify a photo to be used in your profile which is viewable by other board members.

All photos must be no larger than 50 kB.

Photos must be no bigger than 800 pixels by 600 pixels.

As you can see for both the limitation in kB is 50, however the actual size on the screen can go to 800x600 in the Profile photo and only 200x150 in the Avatar.

I hope this helps.

I have accounts with Picasa, Flickr and Snapfish. Can I work from any of these to post pictures?

Thanks for you help,

BS
I am sure you can, probably Flickr is the easiest one.
OK, I'm working on it. I'll post a picture right here when I figure it out.

Thanks Again,

BS
Admiral posted "How To" in the Test Forum and I was able to post a picture from Picasa (in the test forum) by following his procedure. I still haven't figured out how to post a picture for my profile. Even after resizing, they are too large or they won't upload. ?????

This could be me on a Moto Guzzi Quota on Cheat Mountain in West Virginia; This could be my brand new ("09) TW with one wheel in the water; [img]Thanks to all for helping me be a part of this group. I think I'm going to have a lot of fun on this TW. I am adding a few things to the bike, as suggested earlier, and I'll get a fresh picture up soon.

BS
What happened?

The picture showed up when I tried this in the test forum.

I forgot to do the "Add Image" thing. I think they're in the wrong order too, in relation to the previous attempt. But I think I might have it.

wvbobsmith,

Short version. How I got the avatar picture to work. I resized my avatar photo to 200x150 on my computer not photobucket or picasa. Browsed my cpu and added the avatar. Worked.

I could not get a avatar picture to work from photobucket or picasa, even if I resized it.

Even though my avatar photo is different than my profile photo, I only changed the avatar photo as I think this is the one your trying to get to work.

Glad you got your photo's to post to a forum. The first one sure looks like it was a pretty nasty ride!

Admiral,

You're right, I really was thinking about the avatar picture more so than the profile. I have a million pictures of me and motorcycles, but I am going after some new ones now that will show you what I'm doing with the TW. I will play with this this morning for a while and maybe get out and snap a few shots this afternoon.

Thanks Again for your help,

Rich,

Your link looks like an easy and simple way to get the job done. Thank You, also,

Rich,

Your link made the Avatar easy, Thanks

Still haven't got the Profile Picture to fly yet. My computer skills are what kept me out of the Space Shuttle.
Maybe I'll watch some of the Daytona 500 instead of trying to get more pictures today. It's noon and still 30 degrees here.
