It's funny since I don't even have my TW running yet, but I've already been kicking around ideas for giving it more power. I know there's very little you can do with the stock motor, and I've seen several XT225 builds on here. But to me, that's a lot of work for not a lot of gain.

So I proposed the idea to a friend in Reno, and he came up with the perfect solution -- a Yamaha Blaster 200cc two-stroke motor! So I'm considering finding one of those to transplant into my TW chassis at some point in the future (maybe). It's 195cc, single-cylinder, air cooled, makes 30 hp at the motor (17 rwhp in the quad), so should be peppier than the stock TW motor. Plus with a little tweaking... upgrade the reeds and a good set of pipes, and it should move right along. It'll be kickstart only, but I suppose for that I could learn to kick. :)

Of course, this is assuming the thing will fit. I'll need to find a Blaster and do some measurements of the motor. I don't want to mod the frame if I can possibly avoid it (other than for motor mounts).

Thoughts? Yeah I already know I'm crazy. :)

I say go for it!

The main challenge for engine transplants into the TW is to get the drive sprocket lined up with the wide rear tire and swingarm. I am not familiar with Blasters or quads, so maybe this engine already has the required offset?

It would be cool if this works (at least for straight line acceleration), but clearly the TW braking and suspension limitations would become even more apparent.

At least a custom countershaft sprocket probably wouldn't be a huge deal. But an ATV's rear diff and brake are in the middle, so it should be closer to right than not... at least I'd hope.

I agree on the brakes and stuff. If this were to happen, I'd definitely adapt real hydraulic brakes to it. I already have plans to do gold valves and springs up front; have to figure out what to do with the rear shock too. I've never really believed in leaving stuff stock. Ever. :)

What'd be really funny is having a plated two-stroke.

Brian,

How would a TW Engine fit in that aluminum frame. It might drop the total weight down at least a few ounces from the feather-light 290lb. + TDub.

Physically, sure, nitrous would be easier. But it'd also blow the motor up pretty darn quick. And besides, what's the point? It's not to build a drag bike.
