I finally had a chance to start my trailer wheel conversion .....
Seems like there's always time to work for others but seldom
time to do things for myself..... Lol

Im proud of this little $23 1/4 inch hole ,.......
None of the drill bits I had would drill this hub .
I ran to Lowe's and picked up a few Cobalt bits ..
They did just fine..
Unfortunately by this time the hole is off center .
Ohhh well crap happens ....

I broke out the new 1/2 inch gear reduction drill and loaded it up with a 1 3/8 hole saw.
I had to put a longer pilot bit in the hole saw then I went to cutting ....

As you can plainly see it turned out far from perfect.
Hopefully this hack job will Balance out .... View attachment 229816
The cut on the lower left doesn't look to bad .
But every time I turned the hub for the next cut the
Positioning just kept getting worse ....

The hub almost fits.
Hopefully with a little clean up with the Dremel tool it will fit.

Now comes the hard part.
I have to find that dang Dremel tool .
A place for everything and everything in it's place ..
But where that place is I haven't a clue ....
Hopefully I will find it by Christmas so I can get on with this project ....
When / if I do another wheel I will use a 1 1/4 inch hole saw .....
I will also try to do less of a hack job and get the cuts a little more precise .
Ohhh well It is what it is
Looks good from over here

Mikey. It's horrible. Ship it to me, and I'll gladly dispose of this chunk of round metal that's no longer gonna look good on your TW. You're welcome. :)
You realize shipping will be expensive and on you my friend.... ;)

Ohhh it was hot today
Right after work ( I slipped out early ) I finally put a new chain on the T-dub .
I guess a little over 4,000 miles out of the stock chain isn't horrible considering
it had to lug the trailer around the whole time ....
It was definitely way passed ready ...
Plenty of kinks , twists and frozen links ...
Then i took a ride around the block ;) for a test ride .,

I had to take the trailer off to swap the chain .
It was hot , I was sweaty so I didn't bother to hook the trailer back up ....
I just took off .
wow what a difference , the bike felt twice as light.
It was very nimble and really handled well.
I could almost drag a knee on a tight exit ramp ..... Lol
The brakes actually worked and stopped the T-dub without a fender smacking nose dive ...
It also had much more pep.... It always felt like I was a gear lower then I really was ....
High speed was limited by running out of rpm instead of running out of torque ....
I had a blast and that tank of gas seemed to go by extremely fast ....,
Without the trailer it was very clear that the factory carburetor settings don't cut it .
and the little goat was begging for a sixth gear.
fifth gear is almost ok with the trailer ...,..
I never really rode the dub without the trailer except for easy break in miles ....
Now I really know why we all love this little bike ...
I think it may take a few days to get around to hooking the trailer back up ....

A rare picture of the dub without the tag-a-long ...,

Sounds like you'd benefit from a 226/ 6 spd swap! ;) Probably more than most!

Mike
It's on my hopefully someday list ...,
The trailers not that heavy. It's usually under 75# loaded.
But she catches air like a five masted tall ship in a northern squall
