Put new battery in my 94 tw and started up first time. But let it sit overnight with no key in it or anything and battery was dead. Didnt even drive but 10 minutes after battery was charged. Any ideas?

Check your grounds first. A fully charged battery might be a bit more forgiving with bad connections, but when it gets a bit discharged, there will be no flow!

Did you trickle-charge this NEW battery for at least 12 hours before using it?

No i didnt have one but showed fully charged....
How do you know it was fully charged?



What kind of new battery?



Do you have any accessories wired to the battery?



Is your charging system working?

I have a new everstart battery 4lb battery charged till showed full bout 4 hours and then let it sit for a couple more. Its all stock. No blinkers or tail light. So i dunno

Is this a battery you have to add the acid yourself?



What is the charge rate (amps) of the charger you used?

I'm only posting this because someone PMed and asked for my input. I've stopped hanging out here because too many seem to value the feelings of crybabies over truth and safety.



First, make sure the battery is actually dead. Do that by checking specific gravity. A SG tester is only a couple bucks at any auto parts store or Walmart and they are easy to use. If the battery is actually dead, recharge it and let sit overnight, then check its charge with the SG tester again. If it holds a charge when not connected to the bike, but goes dead when connected to the bike, the problem is the bike, not the battery.



The only way a good battery will go dead overnight is if there is a voltage leak, which in this case would mean a short from the positive terminal to the negative terminal. Check for this by placing an ammeter in line with the battery with the key off and see if any current is flowing. If there is, you have a short someplace. Find and fix the short.



Alternatively, if the battery isn't actually dead, but current isn't flowing, you could have an open circuit. An open circuit can be caused by a loose or corroded connector, a blown fuse, a bad switch, or a broken wire. Check all the electrical connections for corrosion and a tight fit.



Wouldn't hurt to clean/tighten all connections in the wiring and run through the electrical system and component diagnostic process (troubleshooting) described in the repair manual. All you need is a cheap VOM and patience to determine the problem, and cleaning/tightening all the connections will prevent electrical problems down the road, when a storm front is looming on the horizon, it's getting dark, and you are 20 miles from home.

Sounds like your rectifier might be bad. Mine was when I bought the used TW.
