Who would have thought it?
I changed my rear brake shoes about two weeks ago but had a helluva time trying to get them to "seat"...No matter how tight I adjusted them, they would seem to fade out within one or two stops.
Then, on the way home yesterday, they started to bind...the linkage was turning PAST the flat spot on the actuator! I managed to get them to un-stick, but no matter what I did, there was still no stopping power to speak of.
...until I tried BACKING up. Then, the wheel would lock up tighter than a gnat's a$$. SO this got me thinking....
Got home and pulled the rear drum assembly to have a look at the shoes. They both "looked" the same...same material...same thickness...
Just to satisfy my own curiosity, I reversed them on the assembly and re-installed.
A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE! Not only do I have adjustment, but I actually have a rear brake that STOPS the bike!
Anyone else experience this oddity?
