The easiest way to get it off is to remove the kickstand bolt while it's on.

The easiest way to get it back on is to use a long, thin screwdriver or drift pin and stick it in the hook on the spring orienting the hook inward. Then wedge the screwdriver under the pin and lever it on like a brake spring on your car.

If spring is still on shove dimes between the coils while extending the spring with the kick stand.

If spring is already off - as you bend it shove a dime between the coils any place you can. About $1.20 in change stuck into the spring should make it easy to install/remove. Maybe you need to add another 50 cents tax to that sometimes to make it work easier.

Try it. It works!

I'm saving up for my next spring change. Dime trick is golden. Makes me feel like I wasn't paying attention for the last 40 years, though.

Save up enough to get a hand full of washers at the bulk hardware store. They're a few cents each.

So if I used pennies I'd save a nickel-ninetyeight?
