REPUTATION

5007 Views 30 Replies 23 Participants Last post by  qwerty
Upon posting this morning and checking if I had any 'Personal Messages' I was surprized to see that I had already earned a -1 on my "reputation". Not sure how the rateing is done, or what may have merited a negative. Should anyone have a problem with me, please feel free to approach me via forum personal mail or my E-mail. I certainly won't labor over this, but it seems counter productive to not at least try to 'right' a mis-deed. Gerry

i have wondered how a persons reputation goes up or down. i have probably read everything that you have posted gerry and havent seen anything out of line or anything that sounded like you were lieing. so whith that being said i would like to know my self how you earn a reputation.

shawn

p.s. my lack of grammar usage should probably warrant a bad rep.

Never fear I just gave you a +2.
Just did a quick search under help and found this guys:

User Information

To the side, you will see the user's profile picture if they have one. Below this you will see options to add the user as a friend, send the user a personal message and view content from the user. Underneath this, you will see the user's total reputation, if enabled, taking into account all positive and negative reputation given for all posts. Underneath this, you will see the user's statistics, including what group they are in, how long they have been a member and other basic details.

Well, to me you are one of the most upstanding individuals on this board and the previous board. You are even referred to on other message boards as a T-dub guru of sorts that will give a straight answer.

Perhaps your "minus one" rating is a "dash one" rating?

Really appreciate the support folks. One's reputation seems to be one of the few thing that we truly 'own'. I think I may have moved close to the 'issue'. I just noted that at the bottom right of each post is a (+) and (-). We can check either, as I guess, to vote on the/a post (I think). With this, and the insight from another poster, perhaps our "reputation" is based on how others respond to our posts. I generally write out how I like or appreciate something that really strikes me as 'outstanding' or 'above and beyond' the norm. Should I come across a post that I really feel uncomfortable with, I will share those feelings with the author as well.

I think someone really did not like one of my posts and indicated with a (-). I can live with that as long as they don't think I am a liar or a cheat.

To test my theory, I went over the posts that I have had the time and good fortune to read, if I had felt really inspired, I have already noted, but in light of my recent experience, I went back and gave you a (+), so it should show in your profile. Now this is not to say that I did not like or appreciate many/all of the other posts. Some were very nice and others I have not read and a few by virtue of the title, I have and likely won't read. To make up one, 'should I wear gloves to clean my dirty chain'. Thanks again Gerry

(seems my "drama" is at an end. Seems the -1 was a mark earned by the "Missing Link" awarded to Rich for posting the Spec page from our Owners Manual. I suspect it represented some misunderstanding or confusion.......... guess I can go to bed now. Thanks again folks)

I wouldn't put much into it ,jerry . Your still welcome in my home with negitive points.

I really don't get the point thing anyway. If you get alot you get banned?? Really I may not have paid any attention to it if it wasn't brought up.

Don't feel bad Gerry, i was trying to learn the new forum software and ended up giving myself a -1 rating. Thinking it may have been a delete tab i pressed it and Wammo! i am now a bad guy with a negative rating also. Probably you achieved the rating by mistake in much the same manner.
betopimienta, don't worry I gave you a + just to make up for it.....not that you should or seemed worried.

i didn't know what the + and - were for. they are above the "multiquote" button, so i assumed that you hit the plus on all of the people you wanted to quote, and if you wanted to take one off, just hit the minus. i've never seen a multiquote button before.

in short, i probably +'d and -'d a few people my first day here

MrGizmo, you probably have the best reputation of anyone here
(With Qwerty coming in a close second??
)

I usually read all of your posts.

Appreciate your candor Wheelie and I gave your post a 'plus' (+). Perhaps I made too big a thing out of it. It seems, few of us understood what it ment and how it got there. I was abit concerned someone thought I was a 'bad guy' and since I try to avoid being classed as such, my 'investigation' ensued. No harm, no foul, and Thanks again. Gerry
This is new to me. I didn't know we could actually get or lose an official reputation on here. This will be interesting.
I know a lot of the times on forums or comments after an article that the + or - buttons can be used to "vote up or down" the comment, and or to just vote for whether it is a good comment or not.

In this case is it specifically related to a user and not their comment?
Gerry, It is a new forum with lots of new buttons to press. I find myself just pressing them to see that what happens. Who ever did it probably did it without knowing what he or she was doing. Don't let it bother you.

Or if it was intentional the other guy has the problem, not you. And I bet 99.99% of the people here would agree with me.

Now go have a beer and think about something else! Tony
Gerry, I just can't imagine how you'll ever have a reputation problem here. Somewhere else???
(though I've got faith)

You've settled in here just fine.
