Hello friends

I just over-reved my tw and the engine started knocking hard.

These things dont come with a rev limiter???

Could a rocker arm just rattled loose?

I'm going to be checking the valve clearance tomorrow but it sounds like such a bad knock I think its something much more major.

I had the clutch in... I was in 1st gear with the clutch pulled. The bike leaned over which caused my hand to twist the throttle. WAAAAM a big rev up and then "CLACK-CLACK-CLACK"

the locknut on the rocker arm fell off inside the engine...

Thats what the knocking sound was is the valve gap opened way up because it was backing out with no locknut.

I could not see the nut. It fell down inside the engine somewhere...

Seems like it still has to be up in the rocker area - the noise has stopped? I can't imagine that the valves can open wide enough to let it fall into the cylinder. You'll probably see some scars on the inside of the rocker covers where the nut was bouncing around inside there. You'll likely have to pull the head to find that puppy. Good luck.

My base gasket is leaking (5,000miles)

Ill do the base gasket... and hopefully find it.

Can anyone tell me what the part number is for the required gasket set(s)?

I've seen the writeup but did not find any exact list of the required parts.

2010 model head gasket plus base gasket... is this all I need?

I believe this happened to another forum member when he and his bike fell off a trail and landed upside down. I cant remember which thread but hopefully someone or you can find it to see how he fixed it.

Thanks. I found everything I needed there.

I ordered the 2010 head gasket, base gasket, 2sirpinclips and the 2 o-rings.



So my plan is to do the base gasket and hopefully find the nut.

Try using a small, strong magnet in there.

I did try that but you cant see anything and the magnet wont go down inside the timing chain





I got the 2010 head gasket o-rings, sirpinclips n stuff

I'm just waiting for the base gasket to arrive, it was backordered.....
