Hi All,

So I'm sure you have seen all the same rookie questions, but hoping to get some feedback and suggestions....here goes....

Used to ride street bikes 10+ years ago, no exp since, still consider myself a rookie. Bowhunter, western washington. For health reasons need a little extra help getting around in the hills these days but I'm still quite young and active. I'd like to know a couple things if anyone has a sec.....

Rack/mount for bow to handlebars?

Rear Saddle bags - Suggestions?

Extra Lights? Can this tw200 power extra lights? Suggestions?

Power/speed increase without losing the low end torque?

Trail rack?

Any mods a hunter/camper/fishing guy should have on there?

Considering new vs used....comments?

Trailer suggestions? Cheap, logging road use, two bikes, would like to have some extra room for gear, but optional

Any chance these things will travel on snow/ice covered gravel roads? spikes/studs?

Anyways, just getting some basics covered as I go out looking for one of these this winter. My plan is tax time or before so gathering the data so I can buy the right stuff.

Thanks for the assistance!

Dr. You've got a barrel of questions. I suggest you try the search function on the forum (e.g. rack, saddlebags, etc.). I remind you and all that a search done while you are in an individual forum will only look in that forum, but one done in the general heading will search all 4 of the main ones and the two extra ones. Most of the answers to your questions are available for the reading. Cheers, Tom

I'm also a rookie...I can answer a couple of those questions: rear rack....Cycleracks.com the best one going.

A friend of mine rode his dual sport bike all winter long with home made studs from short sheet metal screws that he screwed into the knobs on the tires. He said he had great traction and stopping grip even on ice. I think you might like the T-Bags front bag that is currently on close out for $39.95. I read about it here and ordered one myself. It holds lots of stuff and fits the cycleracks rack well. Good luck!

I'm an older rider of many years thinking of getting my self a TW200 for all my riding needs a my new home--the Big Island of Hawaii. If I get a TW, it will be a new one. We have one dealer here about 125 miles away. Used ones aren't real common here. Motorcycles are quite a bit more money here, and there isn't much dealer competition.

I understand Yamaha redesigned the head gasket on the TW fairly recently also, and the older one tended to leak.

After going on a hike yesterday, and seeing the conditions on an old jeep trail, I think the big fat tires might work well here.

Wow Rich, yu da man! Thanks! Notice yur western wa. I'm out of Kirkland. If anyone needs some vinyl for their tw (names, single-color graphics, shirts, etc) say the word as I run KirklandScreenPrint.com (Not a sales pitch or anything, just offering to help if ya wana spice up the tw and are local). Rich, thanks for making my research easier, let me know if I can return the favor! - D.

For ultra-cheap hard panniers, I use army surplus ammo boxes. They're heaver than the $300 aluminum boxes but they're cheap, waterproof, top loading, and virtually indestructible. To get the best price, buy the dented ones. I paid $5 for a small one that I use for day trips. I paid $15 each for a pair of large ones that I use for overnight trips. They seem a bit heavy when you buy them. But I've tried both the ammo cans and nylon panniers and I don't notice the extra weight when riding.

Hey DR521 I use my TW for hunting a lot here in southern oregon. I can help with a few easy fixes for good hunting mods. #1 raise the front fender so you dont end up like I did a couple years ago with the front wheel unable to spin because of mud. I just searched raised front fender on this forum and somebody has posted a step by step process of making a aluminum bracket that mounts to the bottom of the triple tree. #2 Saddle bags, I just went to my local tack store and got a set of leather horse saddle bags. They work great with a couple of leather boot laces they tied right under the seat to the frame, I have a had them for about 5 years now and have carried lots of stuff in them and have been very handy. I can even put my fishing pole reel down and tie the pole to the cycle rack and let the pole hang out the back and go fishing. #3 For a rear rack you can not beat a cycle rack that is your best choice. I got in a wreck heading up to AK two summers ago and had the TW with two snowgos on a trailer. They trailer tongue broke and the trailer flipped. The cycle rack was holding up the rear end of the trailer with the 2 snowmobiles and the weight of the trailer resting on it and did not give at all. I hope this helps. My next mods are new larger fuel tank and heavier duty skid plate. Take it easy.

Just came across this as I was playing with some of the suggested search options. Thanks for your time Rich. Hope others will take a peek and see what info you have gleaned from our site. Gerry
