I got this TW for my wife who wanted to learn to ride. At the MSC she fell off the Honda Rebel and got scared and didnt finish the course. However she still wanted to learn. Not wanting to be stuck with a Honda Rebel, in the event she changed her mind I got the TW so I would have a fun bike if she quit.

Thanks to all the help, generosity and info on this forum,I lowered the bike,by replacing the rear shock, as she is vertically challenged.

Well this weekend she got to ride for the first time. Yesterday she was nervous and made very slow laps around the yard in first gear. Today she got back on, more confident and relaxed and rode for almost an hour around the yard (2 acres) in between trees and around flower beds, shifting in to second and travelling at moderate speeds. She is getting good at stopping, clutching etc. This training ground is really honing her handling skills. I am very impressed (she is 57years old). She loves the bike and is loving riding it. With the progress she is making,

It is obvious that this TW will be HER bike. and it looks like she will be riding for awhile to come. So it seems my devious plan of ending up with a TW wont be working out. Guess i am back in the market for a TW as she will be wanting company. A stable of TW's?....did some one say there are meetings for this affliction?

Good for you folks. It is nice to go off exploring with a real 'Good Friend'. If you think you two will move towards traveling on some dirt roads, might I suggest that you do some reading on the forum and replace the stock front tire. That tires lack of traction in more than a few situations had me on the ground before I could even be scared about loss of control. Given I travel real slow, I did not get hurt or break anything, but you do not want this to happen to the Wife. Gerry

I agree, the stock front tire sucks. I really like the Pirelli MT-21 on the front of mine. It has good road manners and great off road traction.

Front tire, good chain, brush guards, and ATGATT is all anyone needs to have a blast with a TW. Everything else is just icing.

Really envy you and congratulate her, my wife of more years then she would care to have mentioned, is pretty adventurous, but when it comes to motorcycles she just can't cope. The hardest she has ever hugged me was when, for a very short distance, she was riding on the back of my BMW.

Tell your wife from me (F, 56, riding TW 5yrs) she will grow to love it. I just got back from Copper Harbor, MI and was riding the trails out to Lake Superior alone by myself. I have confidence in the bike in how it will respond to different terrain and situations. Even if I go down, its easy to pick up and get back running.
