I've been looking for replacement tires for one of the bikes, and came upon these:

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/5/32/404/19878/ITEM/Shinko-SR428-Series-Rear-Tire.aspx?SiteID=CSE_Gbase_19878&WT.mc_ID=80003&zmam=88421133&zmas=1&zmac=45&zmap=19878

Shinko SR428s, $103 for the pair (with free shipping!)

Any criticism of these? I haven't found anything remotely close to that in price, and that is a big part of my decision. Alternatively, cheap knobbies (off-road only) would be a consideration as well, but beyond ATV tires (which I don't want to do) I haven't seen anything at all.

Bought them in the spring and have been very happy with them. I ride mostly on pavement, but this fellow http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=13086.0 seems to like them off-road too.

About twice as heavy as the stock knobbies, much quieter on road. For me at least on pavement are grippy in the rain, cornering, etc.

He might of said he liked them, but he complained several times about the slipping and sliding. From the pics it looked like they hardly rode off well-graded dirt and gravel. Tires like the Shinkos and the 203/204 are the bees knees for the street, work okay on maintained dirt and gravel, but they suck in deep mud and sand.

Cool, I appreciate it guys.
The link you posted lists the rear tire as a front tire. The TW front tire is not an option on the pull-down menu. That listing is flakey.

www.americanmototire.com lists the front for $63.78 and the rear for $84.30 with free shipping. That's $148.06 a set delivered.
