I have shipped a lot of bikes via Forward Air (truck freight) they are a warehouse to warehouse road feeder network, safe, fast and reliable. They have special steel motorcycle shipping containers for different sized bikes. You could also ship gear etc as there is plenty of room in the containers. http://www.forwardair.com/prepaid/MCmainpage.jsp

They don't deliver to your door so you have to pick the bike up (and drop off) at one of their locations http://www.forwardair.com/locations/falocations.htm

another alternative but its like ebay for shipping you have to screen your shippers is www.uship.com just join for free and post your "haul wanted" and people will bid on moving your bike
