Hello all,
I'm still shopping around for my first TW200. It's a bit hard to come across a used one in my area because we don't really have trails, or dirt roads in VA Beach. I've been looking at the TW as my 4th overall bike. I've been riding for about 5-6 yrs (almost 30 yrs old), and am fairly experienced with street bikes. When I was really young I had a hand-me-down Honda ST-90 bike which I loved. I beat the heck out of that thing. I still have it stored in my parents' shed out in the country, but the engine is locked up and it will probably never see the light of day until I'm old and gray with the desire to fix it up.
So I've owned a sportster 883...loved the bike but was a bit expensive (as were parts)...sold it last summer for more than I paid for it after owning it for 3 yrs. Before that I had a street bike for all of 6 months ('94 Honda 900RR)...too fast for my tastes...was just going to get me into trouble or hurt. My first overall street-legal bike was a '76 Honda CB750. I've had it all along but it currently doesn't run, so I tore it all the way down to the frame to rebuild it over the next year or so.
I'm about 5'8"...currently pushing 200lbs, although I've always been closer to 175 (been a lazy year or two). I have a very short hop to work every day, about 5-6 miles...and no roads over 35mph. I drive a jeep wrangler most days so even when it's a perfect day out I sometimes leave the bike in the garage to go for a top down ride. All in all I've been riding on the street for 5-6 years and I probably have only put about 5K miles on all my bikes combined...hence the reason I'm getting away from the more expensive bike market because it really isn't worth it to own a $7-8K bike when I don't ride that much.
so reasoning has lead me to the TW200...I love the looks of the bike...I think it will fit my ride to work very well...and I think hauling it with me when I visit my parents in the country, or make road trips down to Hatteras Island could lead to some new adventures that could be fun. I used to love trail riding as a kid on 4-wheelers and my old ST-90...so maybe owning something new could rekindle that a bit....also I spend more time 'playing' with things in my garage than I do riding them...every vehicle I've ever owned hasn't stayed stock for long...and I think the TW-200 just begs to be modified...for looks...for performance...for whatever really
Do you guys foresee any issues with this plan?...am I too heavy to use the TW-200 as a commuter bike on a semi-daily basis?...should I continue my search for a used bike?
Any tips or words of wisdom from the pros would be much appreciated
