Hello all,

I'm still shopping around for my first TW200. It's a bit hard to come across a used one in my area because we don't really have trails, or dirt roads in VA Beach. I've been looking at the TW as my 4th overall bike. I've been riding for about 5-6 yrs (almost 30 yrs old), and am fairly experienced with street bikes. When I was really young I had a hand-me-down Honda ST-90 bike which I loved. I beat the heck out of that thing. I still have it stored in my parents' shed out in the country, but the engine is locked up and it will probably never see the light of day until I'm old and gray with the desire to fix it up.

So I've owned a sportster 883...loved the bike but was a bit expensive (as were parts)...sold it last summer for more than I paid for it after owning it for 3 yrs. Before that I had a street bike for all of 6 months ('94 Honda 900RR)...too fast for my tastes...was just going to get me into trouble or hurt. My first overall street-legal bike was a '76 Honda CB750. I've had it all along but it currently doesn't run, so I tore it all the way down to the frame to rebuild it over the next year or so.

I'm about 5'8"...currently pushing 200lbs, although I've always been closer to 175 (been a lazy year or two). I have a very short hop to work every day, about 5-6 miles...and no roads over 35mph. I drive a jeep wrangler most days so even when it's a perfect day out I sometimes leave the bike in the garage to go for a top down ride. All in all I've been riding on the street for 5-6 years and I probably have only put about 5K miles on all my bikes combined...hence the reason I'm getting away from the more expensive bike market because it really isn't worth it to own a $7-8K bike when I don't ride that much.

so reasoning has lead me to the TW200...I love the looks of the bike...I think it will fit my ride to work very well...and I think hauling it with me when I visit my parents in the country, or make road trips down to Hatteras Island could lead to some new adventures that could be fun. I used to love trail riding as a kid on 4-wheelers and my old ST-90...so maybe owning something new could rekindle that a bit....also I spend more time 'playing' with things in my garage than I do riding them...every vehicle I've ever owned hasn't stayed stock for long...and I think the TW-200 just begs to be modified...for looks...for performance...for whatever really

Do you guys foresee any issues with this plan?...am I too heavy to use the TW-200 as a commuter bike on a semi-daily basis?...should I continue my search for a used bike?

Any tips or words of wisdom from the pros would be much appreciated

I am not a pro, but I do own a tw. I am 5'9" and 210. I don't have a problem with my bike moving me around at all. I have a 1994 T-dub with 2400 miles on it. Mine has had a not so easy life and I have had to fix a few things. I can say that this bike is the most fun I have had in a long time on the street or the dirt. These bikes are very well suited for the kind of commute you are thinking of doing. I always have a big smile on my face when riding it.

I'm tall, but am 220lbs, and my TW does just fine. Heck, last year, I rode the TW 200-miles during one trip, maintaining 55mph for much of it, and had no problems with it, other than my butt hurting.

Don't worry about the bike being able to haul you around. I am pretty big (read: round) 5'11 280 and she will carry me at 55-60, I haven't done any long distance on her yet, but I don't see any issues.

Hey Hicks, I'm 6'3" and 230lbs and have never had a bike that was so much fun to ride as the TW. A friend of mine is 6'0" and 265lbs and when he rode my bike for the first time he couldn't stop laughing, he said it made him feel like the first time he rode a motorcycle. For some reason you feel like a kid again when you're on one of these. It's the most fun you can have with a helmet on. You will not regret buying this bike for what you want to do.

Regaining the simple joys of motorcycling, without the speeding tickets. I've had many bike and am now on TW #4, a 1987, which I plan on keeping forever and ever. Kinda like the tote goat I wanted as a kid, but never got. We could never keep that [email protected]# big-tired Heath kit mini bike running that I finally got.

I am 6'2" and 250 with a 30" inseam. The bike fits me just fine. Its comfortable and pushes me around any where I point the front tire. I ride mine pretty hard and it has never missed a beat. There are times I wish the TW had more power to push me around, but the majority of the time I'm very lucky that it doesn't. I ride mine to work when weather permits which is about 5.5 miles round trip and it works perfectly. I load it into the truck and hit the highway to go to my favorite riding area.

Sounds like the TW would be perfect for you!

I'm 6' and 225, my GF is 160 and we ride it two up in the mountains no problem. In first gear it pulled us up any hill I dared point it at. It will run flat out at 55 all day with us on it and can hit 60-65 under the right conditions. I ride it everyday rain or shine to work, 8 miles round trip and $5 worth of gas last me about 3 weeks. It is all around just to much dang fun and I wish I had discovered them 20 years ago. I don't think you will be disappointed. Just realize it is not a KLR 650, Hog, Crotch rocket, etc...and no amount of farkels will make it such. It is a 14hp trail bike and be happy with that!
