My bike has started surging (engine revs faster and then slow) while holding the throttle in the same position ove level ground. What would cause something like that? I did set my valve clearance while the bike was down waiting for a chain, and hopefully I did that right. Also, the bike has been sitting quite a bit. Could it be a carb issue? Not much of a mechanic obviously, so appreciate any help.

Try some Lucas Deep Fuel System Cleaner or Seafoam...

My first thought is carb: Vacuum leak or contaminated idle circuit.

Is idle speed set to spec?

I think the idle is about right, but I will check it out. I have run some fuel system cleaner through it, but not those products. I have never had the carb off, and it does have about 10k miles on it now. Maybe a good cleaning is in order.

Seafoam is a good product, but probably time for you to get intimate with your carb.
