I am a NEW, OLD guy. I am new to the TW200 as I just traded a nice Honda Trail 90 and some cash for my 2006 TW200. I have been around motorcycles, mainly Honda and Triumph (pre 1970's)for about 45 years.

Anyhow...

The TW200 has a 50 tooth rear sprocket on it as stock. I have found a 44 tooth rear sprocket. Is this 44 tooth going to be too high? My 1967 Triumph 200cc Tiger cub was low geared on top end and I want with a smaller rear and it worked out good.

I am 225lbs and the bike will be mainly used on the street. Thanks for any comments.

44 is too high IMHO. I prefer the stock 50, but I ride 50/50. After reading this forum the consensus seems to be a 14/47 if you're doing mostly street.

i have a 45 tooth rear with the stock (14t) front. i ride only on the street. i swapped mine out after just a few days of riding because i hated the stock gearing. i am, and have been, happy with the 45t rear for over 6k miles now.

I have a 44 tooth rear and ride 99% street, don't have any problems with it. I'm pushing close to 90 mpg. First gear is still pretty low, pop it into 2nd gear before ya even know it. It's workin' out pretty good for me....

Too small I have a 47 rear sprocket, it's better in the lower gears but won't pull the top gear, I'm going back to 50.
Does it power out in fifth? Is the "805" in your forum name your area code? If so,I live in the same code. How many miles on your 47 tooth sprocket? Is it the 6 mounting hole style and if you change back, you want to sell the 47T?

Rear sprocker swap is not too difficult and if you already have a 44 I would suggest trying it out to see if you like it better. You may want a 47, or 45, or even the 50 but you should decide that. I have a 45 rear, ride 99% street, and feel this is the right one for me. Gearing change is popular on the TW.

I have dual rear sprockets -- 45t and 55t. I find the 45t is OK for flat land but when I start to cruise in the hills I like the 55t much better.

The 45t is OK in the hills but I find long stretches of 4th gear are needed. On freeways the TW will cruise in the 65 to 70 range and I often have to go into the middle lane to pass some slow poke in the slow lane.

With the 55t I zip up hills. Even when I have to downshift to 4th the engine handles it much better. On the freeway I am the slow poke in slow lane doing about 60 with the engine in the 8500 to 9000 rpm range. I have kept the engine at about 9000 rpm for about 45 minutes once and would do it again if necessary. It didn't seem to hurt a thing. I think the little engines likes it.

Use the 50t sprocket on it now for a while. You'll get used to the high revs and vibration and might end up liking it.

I was running 15/47 out on the flat Kansas prairie. I liked that gearing for everything but headwinds. Now that I'm in Georgia with all these hills, the 15/50 is a better setup for me. But then I weigh 300 lbs.

I have a 15-44 and I am on the street 99% of the time.It does lose power on the hills but I can still do them at 55-60 and staying in 5th gear.

Well I found an OE 44 tooth and installed it. Nice rpm difference (lower) I can pull 55-60mph no problem on straights. Will pull hills easily at 45 in 4th without too high revs.

Just a question. Is there a 13 tooth counter shaft sprocket available? Seems like several small CC Yamahas take the same sprockets.
