It was such a great Sunday afternoon I just had to go for a ride and before long, the road beckoned me to the Snake River Canyon and Swan Falls, about 30 miles southwest of my house in Meridian, Idaho. The Snake River has carved a beautiful canyon through the basalt in this area, which is also home to the Snake River Birds of Prey area. I've posted a few photos and... a first for me, some video. I finally figured out a chest mount for the camera. I could use some refinement to secure and aim it a bit better, but based on the results today, (a clip of the ride down into the canyon and back up), I think it has potential. The camera is a Sony DSC-HX5V, a palm-sized point-and-shoot which has some nifty features including the capability to shoot image-stabilized HD video. See what you think...

Don'tcha just hate it when you see this kind of sign and the road beyond looks so inviting?

I always wear my helmet, but in this case I wanted to look good for the photo -

(plus I had the camera sitting ON the helmet and in self-timer mode. I was solo on this trip.

Finally, the ride back up. I adjusted the camera and was happier with this clip as it's not pointed down as much. Still could use a little refinement for the mount however..

Those are some awesome views from the canyon rim. And the ride down there ain't bad either. Down river in the canyon where your dam view is pointing and the gate is, the road use to go through over to Celebration park and some hidden lakes, which I don't remember their name off the top of my head. I've hiked down in the canyon many times and a Hermit's stone cabin still stands near the river. It's still a great place to visit in the fall and spring.



When I lived near Bowmont, south of Nampa, I use to go riding too, and along the Swan Falls and Snake. From my old house I was able to ride 2-track roads almost all the way. You probably saw many of them on your way. Been a few years since I've ridden down their, thanks for sharing.



I really like the crisp clear view from your camera video. Don't worry about aim during your video's, seems like I'm constantly tweaking. I need a better camera your's does an awesome job.



Do share your chest mount idea. I sorta got one that did ok, but it looked like something Frankenstein would use, so I'm still looking for idea's. I ain't gonna use mine in public. It will scare away the women and children, maybe even the dogs!

Grear ride Truelight, good clips. Will try a chest mount myself. When I see a sign like that I dismount and take a hike. Places that do not allow the internal combustion engine are a better guarantee of peace and quiet and the absence of **** sapiens who for the most part find using their legs and being upright distasteful and prefer the assume a more primitive pose hunched over a machine, even if pedalled.

While the camera mount isn't quite perfected yet the video was very enjoyable nonetheless. I also like the panorama; that's a cool camera you have. The tubes are the perfect size for a couple of beer cans.

Nah... actually it depends on what I'm doing and where I'm going. Usually on a trail ride they will have a water bottle or two. Sometimes some snacks, little stuff that will fit. I have a cargo net I keep in one so I can starp things to the bike should the trunk prove too small. If I'd get with it, I'd put together a little first aid / survival kit and keep it in one of them. That's a "round-tuit" project for this winter.
