Anyone using the spectra 4 off road SAE 10w40 oil in their TWs? I just picked up a new bike and changed the oil for the first time using this oil....i should be ok with it right? I read the bottle and it says nothing about wet clutch plates etc etc...I also have a question about a tap tap tap tap noise that comes from my engine at idle...is this normal? I just. Adjusted the valves so I know it's not that. I also adjusted the chain and checked timing chain....everything looks good. Is this tap tap tap sound normL for these TWs?

Thanks for the help. Will start a new thread with pics of my bike.

here is a quick video that kinda captures the tap noise....you guys who have had these bikes for a while and know how they are suppose to sound may want to chime in.

I hesitate to answer......

It should be motorcycle specific, and say so on the bottle. There are plenty of good ones available.

Google search turns up no info on Spectra 4.

not sure what it costs but rotella 15w-40 triple protection is a good and inexpensive oil.
You get what you pay for. Rotella 3P is a good value. There are better oils available, but they usually cost more. 3P does have the JASO MA rating, so shouldn't have a negative effect on the clutch.

Of course, there is this: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=328478

As many people post up about slipping clutches, as little oil as a TW uses, and the proven superior protection and performance a premium motorcycle specific ester-based synthetic provides, I'll spend the extra $0.001 cents per miles for the good stuff. Really, that's all it costs if the filter is cleaned and reused. At triple the service life, when the cost of a filter is added, the good stuff is cheaper in the long run.
