How do you get to the speedometer light bulb to replace it? Do you pull the plug-socket thing out of the back of the speedo? just dont want to break it.

It is a 1994.

Thanks Ken

I was curious too, so I went out and did mine and took some pictures for you.

I'm sure you've done it, but take off the front fairing/cowl.

It may be easier to take off the headlight but you don't have to.

Unscrew your speedometer cable.

Take off the cotter pins. Be careful because they are holding on a metal washer and a rubber grommet.

Pull the assembly up.

You'll see where the wires go. Gently pry out the rubber plug where the wires go with your hand. The bulb is connected to those wires.

I replaced mine not long ago, careful with the rubber spacers, I didn't even see them when I took the clips and washers off, luckly I found them after trying to figure out why it wasn't going back together correctly.

Also, I found the bulb at autozone if that helps.

I too changed the bulb in my speedometer to an led...the WLED-NW5 from superbrightleds.com

I also changed my indicator lights out to the leds today. I used the BA9s from superbrightleds.com, and I changed out my pilot box. It was one of the 2001-present changes that were made to the bike that I didn't like. I like the way the pre-2001s had the amber indicator for the turn signals instead of the green in the newer bikes. I wanted to be able to glance down and know what the lights meant by their color. The amber is better associated with the turn signals. So, I ordered a pre-2000 pilot box (Part # 15A-83568·00·00) for $18.

Here is a link to the thread with more on the subject: http://tw200forum.co...-indicator-out/

Here are some example pics of the different pilot boxes that I found elsewhere on this site:

1987-2000:

2001-present:

It only took about 15 minutes to do the whole job. Remove the headlight cowling, remove the Jimbo shield if applicable, remove the 2 screws holding down the pilot box, remove pilot box, change the 3 indicator bulbs, check that they all are working correctly, install pilot box and screws, remove clip from one stud under the speedometer while holding up on the washer, remove the washer, remove the rubber grommet, repeat for second stud, lift up on speedometer, pull down on the grey grommet holding the bulb, replace bulb, intall all in reverse order, done! Note: on my 2004 I didn't have to unscrew anything related to the speedometer cable, it all pulled through the bottom when lifting up on the speedometer.

I'd like to thank Qwerty, TW-Brian and Rainman for their previous work and posts on the subject.

This was very helpful. I found this thread by using Google. I wanted to know how to change out the speedometer bulb in my 1994 TW200, and the pictures were a big help.

Think you could get a picture of the speedo and indicators with the LED's in them so we can see what they look like illuminated? Thanks
