How are you all breaking your stuck silencers loose? I'm sure the silencer on my 87 has been fastened to the head pipe for its entire existence however I am swapping my rusty crusty header for a shiny stainless replacement. I removed the clamp, spread the squished yet that suckered doesn't want to part
I've ordered new gaskets so it's OK if it gets mauled. Never had such a stunborn silencer to remove.

Mine is newer than yours but was still good and seated. First disconnected at muffler and head pipe and then head pipe and head. I needed to real firmly twist the head pipe up and down to get some twist/movement at muffler connection - a little WD 40 got things moving better and apart.
