Hi T dub guys,

I just returned from a ride with B-dub in the awesome SW Utah area.
It started on Saturday morning in Hurricane, Ut.
We met at the Maverick Station in the shadows of Zion.

We were able to leave after I put a new contact in and moved all my camping gear into the truck.
Old Zion Road was the first place to hit off road.

Smith's Mesa is our next area of interest.
Now, let me tell you, B-dub is no slacker when it comes to giving you details from the areas we are about to see.
Hurricane Sam the test dummy Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields: Southwestern Utah

The view from the narrow paved road as we climb the mesa's edge.

We see B-dub's hunting area, Indian writings, and some dwellings of the rich and famous.
Next we head down the mesa and over to Rockville and Springdale.

Now from there we head upward to Smithsonian Butte is our next area. Smithsonian Butte National Back Country Byway

We hit Gooseberry Mesa next and the mighty 29er is everywhere.
Do you know what that is?
29" tire and rim combo on all the newest mountain bikes.
The place was crawling with bikers, non motorized, EXCEPT for the two TW's.

Wow, what spectacular views from all the places we have traveled.
It's getting late and we have to get going.
We head back out and onto the 89 to head to Hurricane.
B-dub tells me about a gas station and points it out and we ride.
Upon hitting the pavement we are doing the max and you guessed it, I run out of main tank.
Only about a 1/2 mile from the station too.
I can't turn the petcock by hand, I pull over and refuel with a Kolpin 1.5,
I use my pocket knife to twist the petcock handle ( rebuilt with o rings so it's real tight ) my knife is buried in my riding gear.

B-dub turns around and heads back to see if all is ok.
We ride back to the Maverick and load up my rig.
But, I look down at my speedo, 100 miles exactly.
Now I know that doesn't mean much to a ride, but in our emailing back and forth in the days before our ride.
B-dub tells me " the ride should be about a hundred miles. "
It wasn't 101 or 99 it was 100 exactly. Now that is a guy that knows his backyard and knows it well.

I had a great time Moseying around the shadows of Zion, with the best guide in the SW.
Thanks B-dub,

Last Spring my friend Larry and I rode a portion of this route with B-Dub. What a great tour guide he was. I am a history buff so the insights regarding the test facility were really interesting to me.

We also explored the Mtn Bike Rampage site.

Those kids are crazier than I ever was in my youth.

Happy Trails All

I'm glad you enjoyed the ride, Mark. It was great to get to ride with you again. We couldn't have asked for a better day, weather-wise. Did you get some pics of your ride over Kolob and Pine Valley Mountain?

Kinda neat when forum members can meet up for a ride. I'd like to ride down there one day and if I do I want B-dub to my tour guide too! Looked like you two had a great ride with lots of interesting things and scenery to see. I like it!:D

I do have pics of the Kolob and over and back.
I will try and post soon, however, the weather is so nice right now.
Working on this weekend's ride, getting the 650 ready for a longer adventure.
What are you doing Saturday?
I'm thinking about west of St.George.
Hmmmm.

Riding with other members in their area is great fun! I would just replace your petcock. I tried cleaning mine too and they really are so cheap that best to just replace it. Need to be able to switch it over to reserve while riding.....
