We'll I've officially got a frakenbike. Bought this XT350 tank from a guy up in PA, it's in really good shape except for a tiny bit of rust inside. I'll be trying the pine sol and rock trick to clean it out. Takes my capacity from 1.8 gallons to around 3.2, pretty big difference in range at 75+mpg.

Had to make a bracket that moved the stem back 1". Gonna hold off cutting up the seat, don't feel like doing that tonight.

Excellent! I want one.
Get one!

If only it were that simple. I've looked for a while and they were either beat up tanks or asking way too much, or both. I'm glad this one was posted on here and that someone was kind enough to handle the transaction and shipping since the seller wasn't willing to. It'll get tested when my brother is home for Christmas. We're planning on heading out to Kansas on the TW and the Versys.

Nice work on that custom bracket mattmus4357! Very Clean!
Hey thanks! All it takes is some 1" metal flat bar, a vise, and a framing hammer :D

I'm going to throw a few coats of silver duplicolor on it to prevent rust. The installation as a whole was pretty simple. Now I'm just waiting to figure out how I'm going to do the seat. I've considered just cutting it down and cutting some slots to make it more flexible, but I've also considered doing the XT350 seat graft to it. Gotta keep looking at it, the answer will come to me.

I bought a 1989 XT350 tank in very good condition, inside and out. It is a Cali tank. I'll plug the extra hole on the bottom.

Two questions:

1. Since I will plug the extra hole, will a 49 State cap work?

2. Where can I buy a fuel cap?

Regarding No. 2 -- lowest price I found is $49; a locking model.
A locking cap would be nice, but a regular cap is okay too.

Both parts sites that I looked at show the CA cap being the same as the non-CA cap. Cheapest I'm seeing a new one in the few places I've looked is $75. I would keep looking around, surely something will pop up that's cheaper.

I put a Cali tank on mine - plugged the hole for the Emissions plumbing and so far using a venting cap works fine.

Try boats.net, IIRC they had them for $75, or watch ebay. I picked up a locking cap with a key for $35 shipped. Not in new condition though - had some corrosion and the gasket is showing it's age from the cracks on the edge, but it was cheap and functional. :)

My big Clark tank has minor contact with the handlebar mounting brackets at full lock which I addressed by installing fender washers to spread the point of contact over a larger surface area. Hopefully this will help prevent any punctures or damage to the tank. 2” risers allow bars to avoid contact with the tank.
