I'm not looking to switch out tubes, but to move on a solution for the agri-supply tool of tdub forum fame.
If it's a 3 inch tool tube like most of the forum members use, I just happen to have an end cap like the 1st picture above. (wingnut tension-er) If you can use it, I'd be glad to send it to you bro.

LT, I truly appreciate the offer. However, I rely on the extra space provided by the tool tube cap itself for the length of my fire extinguisher and fuel bottles in order that they may fit.

If you are looking to get rid of it I'm sure someone could use it!

Just thought I'd offer it to a valued forum member. ;)

I'll put in "Freebies". :)

Bump.... I've been riding my TW with two tool tubes for 5+ years now holding two MRS 1.5l fuel bottles. They finally failed on me while riding a nasty pot-holed road at March Moto Madness this year. I think that the weight of the full fuel bottle and the road shock was just too much for the plastic tube mounts.

So - I moved on to Version 2.0. Since the MRS fuel bottles are a similar shape to a fire extinguisher, I bought two fire extinguishers mounts to use. I used three cable brackets to hard mount it to my rear frame. I used the awesome Titan straps to then secure the MRS bottle to the fire extinguisher frame. It seems rock solid and avoids me screwing with the plastic tube caps.

Here is the mighty TW at March Moto Madness this year. We got some surprising cold weather this year.

Most of my riding pals (and my son) had KTMs ranging from 400 XCW to 690s. The little TW kept up with them on the trails - but I was a wide-open-throttle gear shifting fool. The tougher the trail, the more you love having that little TW. This year I think I'll look into upgrading the front springs to keep my fat ass from bottoming it out so much.
Here I am with my son on the surprising snowy trails in Tennessee

That looks really good, Trail Woman, but what is it? Just PVC? What parts did you use? I can't tell much detail from the pics, but I'm curious. It looks like it's mounted to the outside of the fender. Or is the fender plastic just cut back?

It's ABS tubing with an aluminum bracket made of 2 re-purposed bicycle brackets on the subframe, aluminum sheet, and square tubing cut in the shape of the tube. It bolts into the tube with a two hole one piece washer. Then I took some sintra sheet plastic cut and then bent with a heat gun held on with one bolt and some zip ties under the modified cowling. I ride rough single track it's held up for a year or two. It's sturdy enough I can lift the bike by it.

More details here...

Stole BkCntryCrwlr's system for mounting the storage tube. Used Loctite with compression washers for overkill. The brackets aren't pretty, but they don't need to be. Really happy with the results.

Nice job. As long as I've been around the forum I missed this method for the storage tube. Thanks for posting.

I may post this on any other thread about carrying fuel, but I'll start here on the Tool Tube discussion. A few years ago, I followed this thread and added two tool tubes to my TW rack for carrying spare fuel:

This worked fine for a few years. However, during March Moto Madness in Tennessee this year, we had to run a few miles on the WORST pot-holed gravel road I've ever seen. The plastic tabs on the tool tubes just didn't survive. I made it back with liberal use of Gorilla tape! When I got home, I went to work on "fuel bottle V2.0" and scrapped the Tool Tubes altogether. I bought two fire extinguisher mounts that are hard-bolted to the rack. I then use these handy Titan rubber straps to secure the tank. I'll be riding in the Michigan Upper Peninsula this weekend to give them a pounding. I hope they survive.

Good on the second Titan straps. Had envisioned vibration possibly allowing contact between aluminum bottom of Primus and steel Cyclerack with unpleasant results.
