Mine also broke in the same spot. I suggest using some zip ties to also support the tool from bouncing and flexing, luckily another rider found mine and returned it to the start of the dualsport event I was in.
Has anyone ever broken one of these? I got one of those mega tubes like iceman has and the mount by the cap busted first dirt ride with it on. I had it strapped to the rear of the cycleracks like I had my smaller one. I don't think I had it over weighted either, I had a tool roll with 3 wrenches, a 1/4" ratchet with a few sockets, a screwdriver and a pair of mini vice grips in it. It guess less than a pound.

I got mine from thetooltubecom as well. I also ordered one of his tool rolls, it's a very nice piece.

Here are some pics of it busted up.

I have one of the smaller tubes from AgriSupply and have not yet mounted it. One thing I noticed is that when mine is mounted, it will be tilted slightly downward with the cap end upward. I got to thinking (it hurts by the way) how would I retrieve all the stuff in there short of taking the cap off and doing a wheelie? I came up with this, I took a heavy piece of plastic, cut it to just barely fit inside the tube and drilled 3 holes in it. I had some hot pink carpenter's string line laying around and braided 3 pieces. A loop on one end and knotted the other end. Fed the 3 ends through the holes and knotted them. Now I can put this in the tube first, stuff my registration, spare headlight bulb, spark plug a few wrenches and a mini vice grip in there and just pull the string out slowly to grab all the junk. I tried it a few times with aforementioned items and it worked great! Wood Hardwood Laminate flooring

Interesting and useful invention you came up with. Putting things in an old tube sock works pretty well too.
After finally discovering the location of the foul odor I smelled after a short ride, I now use a "new" tube sock in mine.:D Plus all my old tube socks had holes in them.

I'd never even noticed that they were there. Hasn't been a problem for me. A little dab of silicone sealant would allow you to sleep better.

Now, about those Rustynuts of yours, that is a different matter entirely . . . . . ;)
Yeah you never really get to pick your nickname, I work in automotive service , when bolts are stripped ,rusted or otherwise broken and need drilled out it has somehow become my claim to local fame. Now shops from all over this corner of the state send me stuff that their tech's wont touch. Not exactly the kind of famous talent I dreamt about in my younger days, but I try to make the best of it.

I had that bike too, loved it, except you were limited on rear tire selection because of clearance. That YDIS was wired, but it sure made for a great running bike. Beside a case leaking a bit of oil, I never had any problems with it either.

Not wanting mto lose my Agri-supply tool tube cap due to unscrewing, I discovered a band cut from an old (21"?) innertube and stretched over the
cap/body joint, fits perfect.
You all probably know this, but thought I'd share, just in case.
I'd hate to loose my tire irons and patch kit that are in it, on a trail ride.

Lost my tooltube cap and all contents due to vibration once. Solved the prob by making my own tubes out of ABS now.
Nice! Three questions, though:
  1. What schedule pipe is that?
  2. Did you paint it yourself, or did it come in black?
  3. What kind of fittings / straps did you use to affix it to the bike?
