Nice! Three questions, though:
  1. What schedule pipe is that?
  2. Did you paint it yourself, or did it come in black?
  3. What kind of fittings / straps did you use to affix it to the bike?
1. Just standard ABS we get around here. It's all black. Used 3" for my KLR and 4" for the Stelvio cause it would fit. Glued cleanout fittings and threaded caps w/ o-rings either end. No bolts, just stainless worm gear clamps rapped around it and the baggage frames for a no bolts, smooth interior.

Thank you for the great pics. I think there's one other person who I've seen who did it this way. Looks pretty sturdy.
What are the bars made of? Aluminum, steel?
Made mine out of 1/8" galvanized flat stock steel. Easy to bend and drill for the mounts...no welding required for those of us that are a bit challenged when it comes to burning metal! :p

I hope I didn't sound like I was cranky or rude. I especially didn't mean to sound like a cranky old ass. I have several years to polish those skills.:D

I made this mount. The wire ties are not part of the mount for the tube and were a temp solution to hold a knife to the outside of the tube. Don't use aluminum as it will crack. I used 1 inch x 1/8 flat stock non galvanized steel and stainless bolts / washers with nylock nuts.

Skimmed through thread, but cannot find what folks are doing for a non-lock lid retention solution. Assuming a large rubber band or something? Had one tube's top come off and fire extinguisher pop out the other day on a dirt road. Luckily I heard it happen, but I'd hate for it to happen on the road at 55mph.

I wouldn't mind a lock solution, though, so I don't have to transfer items to lock box when stopped. I can figure that out, just wanted to see what folks are using for non-lock lid retention.

Used a small "I" bolt (wood thread). With the cap threaded on, I drill a hole thru cap and body in a convenient location and screwed in screw. Easy to grasp with fingers and the coarse thread does not want to vibrate loose nor is it difficult to align and thread into place.
