Getting there is half the fun. I took 50, The Loneliest Highway across Nevada until Great Basin N.P. then took my favorite 91 mile dirt shortcut past Crystal Peak and Black Rock.

Saw some groups of really funny looking dogs.

Arrived at Capitol Reef access to Cathedral Valley around dusk. Park said Fremont River ford was 14" and it looked a little too proto-rapids for me so I went on to Swing Arm City. I got a pretty good campsite I thought.

I figured no one would jump the 80 footer just to left of my white van.

Next day I rode the 70 miles in and out to Cathedral Valley on the eastern access road since Fremont River had more rain upstream. Really nice scenic cruise meandering through varied landforms.

Bentonite Hills at beginning of cathedral valley road.

Campground at north end of valley. No one there, started to rain, soon fuel line split so return to camp was a bit of an adventure. Then the wind picked up to ridiculous speeds.

Betty Boop got blown over three times so I ended up strapping bike to the van. 70 mph gusts? Really stung getting pelted by corn kernel sized stones

Next day rode around Swing Arm City until I broke my sub-frame jumping an arroyo. Killer riding conditions. Worth a story in itself. I could not climb like the big bikes but did some good climbs and hi-marking for a simple TW.

Jury is still out as to whether the Hell's Revenge rock that did this...

Also did this to poor Betty's frame...

A visit to Dan the Barefoot Welder got me back on the road.

Competing theory is that frame got fractured same time I broke my subframe in four places Thursday when we failed to clear a leap across a little arroyo. Lack of rubber isolation mounts on the Ricochet skid plate really transmit shock loads to the frame. Stock rubber mounts are good for the same reason your helmet has a foam liner rather than being directly bolted to your skull.

Well it ain't a true Moab get together until something on Betty breaks. Mission accomplished now let the fun begin!

Oh yeah and that foot don't look too good Fred. Maybe you could get that welded back into shape as well:rolleyes:

Yesterday I could cram foot back into Adventure boot so a few of us rode down to the Green River at Mineral Bottom and upstream to Hell Roaring Canyon and the French fur trapper's graffiti.

Nice easy ride, was a bit warmer and less wind than up on high country

Then I rode to island in sky to get permit for Thursdays White Rim planned ride. And then back to camp via Gemini Bridges. Nice 1.9 gallon ride but weather is still windy and cold

Glad to see the "Island" hasn't changed in 2 years, but next time get yourself {with Betty} one of those "Selfies" :)

We are all having a grand time , great people to visit, wrench and ride with.
Blown fork seals and smashed turn signals seem to be a reaccuring Moab theme.
A few sore muscles but no real injuries. This foot is slowing me down a bit so I'm the one with the funny walk. Won't make the 3+ mile hike into Wild Horse Canyon to see the famous Grand Gallery pictographs as planned on my way home.

At least you did your foot there and can still ride, I did mine before and can't ride, hope to see the surgeon soon and get a walking boot so I can get in and out of the camper and can go to Moab and at least camp and visit. Ever tried to get in a camper with crutches? Hell I just about kill myself trying to get around my house, them things are dangerous...
