In April I encountered an elk at highway speed on my old 2006 TW. That bike had 22k miles on it, and I'd ridden it without incident for 12 years. I had just that day said to myself that I will no longer covet an xt250, instead I would fix this bike forever because it's awesome. I had re-sprocketed it to 15/47, which was great for highway riding and really didn't take much off the bottom end. It had a Jimbo shield, magnetic drain plug, LED instrument lights, cycleracks rack, and a whole lot of love. After the elk, and the trip down the roadside embankment over rocks and into several trees, that old bike was completely totalled. I was lucky to be essentially uninjured except for a concussion and a broken tooth.

Today, I put a deposit on a brand new TW from the nearby dealer. I'll miss my old blue bomber, but I hope to have many happy years on this new bike!

He wasn't there when I woke up in the middle of the road, so I hope he's telling his kids his crazy story about that night in the spring when he got jumped....

Glad your getting a new one!

Back in '92 I was on a "grade" coming down from Lake Tahoe when I encountered a car passing (illegally) on a corner and it was either a header or take the edge. Well, the edge didn't work out that well (the header would have been worse...) and I ended up getting flung over a 120' ridge. I (obviously) survived and getting back on a bike was great from a psychology standpoint.

Good the know you choose to ride rather than surrender.

Glad you’re ok, and sorry to hear about your bike, it sucks when you loose something you really like. However, I’m stoked you bought another one! These bikes are so much fun!

Too bad you didn’t get to bring home some elk roadkill as a consolation prize.

Is the new TW a 2019?

You gladden my heart Sir!! Too many time people quit ridding over the littlest things. It's good to know there are others that have a real arse over tin cup, dust them self's off and get back on that horse!

Thanks everyone! Yes, the new bike is a 2019. Since the 2020s are appearing, the local dealer had the last of his 2019s around and I saved a bit of money on it.

I work as a paramedic, and my fellow medics gave me an elk steak dinner in celebration of my survival.

Holy crap! Those are some legit serious accidents. Glad everyone is okay, and excited to have @NumberThree back with a Tdubs in the stable.

Scary indeed, that's why I try to keep mine under 35mph. Glad it ended well.

A brand spankin' new TW, exciting! Post pics when you take delivery!
