Thinking of getting a new 2025 TW

Hello all. I haven’t been on this forum in a couple of years. I did own 2 TW 2021 models, but had to sell them because of moving. Now I am in Arkansas. I called the local dealer and saw the list price of $4999. Then asked what the out the door price was. And he said something like $5700. Dealer fees. Set up fees. Etc. I told him flat out that I would give him $5100 out the door. And to my amazement he said Okay! I have yet to go check out the bike. I think they have two 2025’s in stock, both with zero miles. I have to be honest, I liked the 2021 Grey paint better than this 2025 model, but I haven’t really looked at it. Because I had two of these bikes in 2021, I bought a Kendon trailer to haul them both. It was a fantastic trailer. Now, I am thinking of getting a trailer hitch bike rack. I think I asked this question many years ago, when I was looking at options to just transport one TW. But now that it’s 2025, what is the best one to get. I apologize if this question has been asked a million times.

A lot of folks speak highly of the Black Widow. The Motojackrack has a hydraulic lift, basically a bottle jack and some smart linkage, if you find ramps clumsy. Some folks have the Harbor Freight one, but I have looked it over pretty good, and wouldn't trust it unless some reinforcement was added. As for something new since you last looked into them, I don't think there's anything new or groundbreaking that's been introduced in recent years.

It’s a huge outdoor sports company here. They have all sorts of ATV’s and Side by sides. I think that this area doesn’t really have the demand for the TW 200 that other areas might. It’s guaranteed at $5100 out the door 2025 model with zero miles! Yay!

Well, I went in and paid for the 2025 TW yesterday. They even offered to deliver it for free on the same day. Delivery guy shows up. You could tell when he started it on the trailer that it had a super low idle, and would die when he gave it any gas. He finally got it going by keeping the revs up and got it off the trailer and into my garage. he killed it. I looked it over. Then I tried to start it and it didn’t start easily at all — having to try many times. Once it started, the idle was really low. I tried to give it gas and it would die every time. Started it again, and I lust let it idle on its own. Idle got slower and slower, until it just died in about 30 seconds. The bike has one mile on it! When the dealer said he was getting it ready for me to go in I thought that meant filling it with gas and starting it up. And making sure it worked. I don’t even know how the delivery guy got it on the trailer. I imagine he could not have driven it on. Since it would have just died. He had to push it On. I don’t know why de just didn’t say “this thing isn’t running right” and brought it back to the mechanics shop. I failed to even check if the choke was on. Because that could have been it. But the idle would have been high. I asked the delivery guy if he put the choke on. He said no. but with everything going on, I didn’t verify. He called the service department and they tried to walk him through some adjustments. Maybe the idle screw on the carb. But he couldn’t turn it, and obviously, I didn’t want the delivery guy diagnosing the issue. So, I asked him to take the bike back. He did. And then he messaged me about 30 minutes later saying “They got it fixed” and he could deliver it back. I told him let’s do that tomorrow, which is today. But I need to talk to the dealer and ask him I can get some detail on why a new bike would have such problems? And as I said. I had two new 2021 models, so — I know how they start, how they should idle and sound. And this area I live in is not at any elevation, so — I am wondering — it couldn’t have been a carb jet issue. I am just surprised that they didn’t start the bike and test it before delivery. The shop is quite large with many new bikes on the showroom floor. They are obviously a large volume dealer in my area.

I can't help but think the problem with your new bike is as a result of price cutting.
How can a dealer afford to properly prep a vehicle if the margins aren't there? They'd be losing money.
Something has to give and in this case it was the basic mechanical inspection and adjustments customers take for granted.

With my recent experience, I would expect you'll be working on the carb yourself. Bought mine used with 53 miles.
I think the original owner was just fed up with the experience of how it idled and ran. He just wanted to get out from under it.

That's about the same mileage as the 2020 I just bought.
Was having throttle return problems and noticed some of the grip had been hacked off.
When I pulled the grip off yesterday I discovered why. The throttle tube was also missing a corresponding chunk off the outboard end, and the hand protector aluminum anchor plug was badly deformed.
The protector couldn't be inserted completely because the clamp needed to be just about where the handlebar brace was attached to the bar.
To solve the problem someone had tried drilling a new hole in the protector's aluminum strut to move it further inboard, but that didn't allow for clearance around the lever and controls, so they went back to plan A by forcing the plug in and tightening the sh!t out of it, thereby mangling the expanding anchor plug and stripping the Allen screw.
After trying every which way to get the guard to fully insert and still clear the controls I resorted to adding handlebar end caps/counterweights as a spacer to fill the gap and replace the aluminum expanding anchor plug with the rubber one that came with the caps/counterweights.
Now all I need to do is replace the throttle tube after applying some lithium grease, and somehow install the super stiff new Kevlar grip.
Hard to believe the shop I bought the bike from would certify a hidden broken throttle tube, sticking throttle and dangling hand guards as "Road Worthy", but they did.

Thos--Welcome to the world of dealer prepped (BADLY) new TW's. I have detailed my experience with this elsewhere on this forum, but to sum it up, all they did was dump some gas in it and make sure it would run, even if very poorly. I'd make them make it right, "bike is unsafe in this condition" might get their attention. I know it kinda takes some of the 'new' off, but maybe next time they'll do the setup right for the next customer. FWIW, adjusting the pilot screw helps a whole lot, provided the pilot jet isn't plugged.

Don't be to concerned about it. I just picked my new one up last month and it did the same thing, I took it right back to them and they cleaned the pilot jet and it runs perfect again. If it sat on the showroom for some time without running it probably just has something in the pilot jet which is a very simple fix weather you do it or they do it. It has to be in the pilot circuit because it happens at idle again very simple fix so don't worry and enjoy your new bike.

It’s nuts over the last few years I’ve read more and more posts from folks who have had similar experiences with their BRAND NEW bikes. What a piss off that must be, when you’re so excited for your TW and crap like this occurs. 100% of the time it’s poor dealer services and care. Hold them to making it right to you and then some. You spent a bunch of money at their business, you have the right to be satisfied. Don’t let up until you’re happy with the resolution. This crap really pisses me off, sorry you had such a disappointment with delivery of your TW and couldn’t enjoy riding it right away. All the best with that. 🫡

Hey. Thank you. And it is totally disappointing when you get a new bike delivered and it doesn’t start. Then I sent it back. They said they fixed it. Same issue. So, they are going to swap the bike out with another new 2025 they have in stock and deliver it. Will let you know how that goes. I mean the bike comes in a crate I think the dealer has to only put the front wheel on.

Well, they tried to deliver the new 2025 twice now. And it was the same issue. The shop claimed it was fuel stabilizer. They cleaned the carb after the first attempted delivery. Then delivered again, and it was almost just as bad. So, the dealer has a second 2025, and I believe that they will try to deliver it tomorrow. I don’t think I should have to fiddle with a new bike. It had 1 mile on it. I will let Y’all know how the second one works out. I am having my doubts now about even using this dealer shop for service. Though it is the largest shop in my area. I am surprised that the mechanics couldn’t rectify the problem on the first attempt. I think it just a gummed up Jet in the carb. And my other fear is that the other 2025 was delivered at the shop at the same time, and will have the same issue.

I follow this YouTube channel; Chickanic. She's got a lot to offer. This video is worth watching as it pertains to our TW's and aging carb rubber parts that leak.
Multiple Tests, SHOCKING RESULTS! Is Mechanic In A Bottle Really Just Snake Oil?

She has others like this one that deals with condensation water in fuel. She's tested many products, and I can confirm this one works on a TW that has water in the fuel. Fuel over 1.5 years old runs fine, no gel, no films, no jet clogs.

I never even had a start issue with my new 2021‘s that I bought in Albuquerque. They were set up right. I choked them at start. And they leveled out. And always idled perfectly. Though I have to mention. I rode them every week. I think that makes all of the difference.

Well. I got the second TW200 2025 delivered today. And it runs great. So, I will just keep starting it every week, and keep running gas through it. And hopefully will have no issues. It idled nice and slow, and didn’t die. Once I took it around the block a couple of times, I noticed that the idle was a tad faster. I don’t know what that means. I let it sit for a bit to see if it would calm down. But still, a higher idle than I am used to. Not horrible.

It is common for the TW to idle faster after it's warmed up with the stock carb. I had gotten into the habit of adjusting the idle with the handy screw they provide to bring idle back down, then remembering to crank it back up when I shut it off for the day and turn the petcock off.

Okay. Good to know. The last TW’s I owned were 2021 models, but I was at 7K feet elevation. And once choked and warmed, they got down to low idle. Maybe I just will test now with choking. And see how it does. I don’t want to adjust the idle every time I ride.
