On this day in history, 1980, the United States defeated the heavily favored Soviet Union 4-3 at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY. The "Miracle on Ice" was the biggest moment in USA hockey history. They went on to defeat Finland for the gold medal 2 days later.:icon_thumleft::thumbsup:
And in 1732, America's first president, George Washington was born. He didn't get to see any Red Commie whipping hockey, But he did whoop up on some Red Coat Ass.

That's a great day for America. Hopefully no one from across the pond with a colorful name takes offense and deletes the thread. Just teasing Purple. I look forward to meeting you in Moab, as long as you bring some crumpets to share.

Tried out the USA vs. USSR Anniversary on my friends college hockey player. They all knew the date of the "Miracle" which was nice to know. I didn't.

GW's Birthday, I knew already, paid holiday at work. Never went in for that Prez Day scam.
