Clearly not your average "sane" racist or he might not have chosen a school. I'm thinking it may have been more personal then the media has been letting on.
Death is only punishment if you believe in an afterlife...otherwise I prefer to keep someone alive to suffer then off them.

How do gun enthusiasts make this about defending their guns?....If he had a gun more people may have been killed? The media tempers everything with fear to keep us home and afraid or in conflict among ourselves instead of coming together to come up with reasonable solutions. This way our supposedly partisan political systems can divide and conquer it's citizens while we debate extreme solutions that favor either reckless freedom or oppressive safety. Let cooler heads prevail.

Edit...the article title and radio stations have been referring to a sword and the article content says large knife. WTF Maybe they're setting up to ban swords. They can go ahead cause I don't have one. ;) Besides...no one suspects a scarf and they can be very deadly if you know what you doing.

It's about guns because even if you outlaw guns there are still going to be these types of incidents. Google Timothy McVeigh. He killed more people with a couple of tons of fertilizer and some Av Gas.

Here's a quote from me in a previous gun related thread;

Here's why:

Since the beginning of mankind more deaths of humans, caused intentionally by other humans, have occurred by use of fist, foot, club, bow and arrow, spear, mace, trebuchet, boiling oil, lance, sword, knife and pointy sticks than all, ALL, the guns, grenades, bombs and any other thing that goes boom or bang. I will bet you all my firearms, along with ammo, powder, primers, bullets and all the equipment necessary to make the parts into ammo, against your entire My Pretty Pony and toy unicorn collection, that if all the guns on the planet were to magically disappear, the planet would NOT break out in world wide hand holding, group hugs and a spontaneous rousing chorus of Kumbaya.

But i thought this type of crime does not happen without guns..... Well at least that's the bogus claim that the people on the gun ban/socialist police state side of the house want you to believe.

I prefer to look at it as another tragedy that could have been prevented has someone been carrying a self defense firearm.

True or...if someone even knew how to use a scarf. If we all took more responsibility to defend ourselves and those around us rather then hiding till the cops come. The spine of a text book can do some damage too. Hehe

It's rumored that Timothy McVeigh was set up and that there was more to taking down the building. The theory sounds plausible to me. He was ahead of the "freeman on the land" movement and the government saw him as a potential threat much like the current movement we know now.

Not really the best argument when guns have only been around for a few hundred years of our history. I get your point though.

I noticed too that the media was all abuzz about the "domestic terrorism" threat for awhile before the OK City bombing. That wasn't the first time, nor the last I have been amazed at their prescience.

Maybe, maybe not. If I had to face the average homicidal maniac, I would much rather he be armed with a pistol than a sword. If he were armed with say a katana or claymore, I would not feel safe just because I have a pistol. In fact I might not even bother to draw my pistol, because doing so would cut into my running time!;)
Now with a .30-06 rifle I might feel a little safer, but only if he were at least 100 yards away.
That doesn't mean I wouldn't still want my pistol, though: I still want a fighting chance in case I can't run, or can't run fast enough.

Twirl the scarf into a sort of rope. Tie a knot in the middle. When looped over the head of the victim from behind, the knot helps crush the throat.
Method used by the thugee cult of killers in India in the nineteenth century to kill without spilling blood. It is from them we get the modern word, "thug".

Another poster questioned the "sanity" of the assailant in Sweden.

I agree.

DO NOT ban firearms - BAN THE INSANE.

Once upon a time, before the nihilists secreted themselves into our political system, we LOCKED UP crazies. Those who did wrong went away for LONG periods. Those who coudn't understand they did wrong; or were otherwise deemed to be out of their gourds...were given white dinner-jackets with very-long sleeves that tied in the back. And there they stayed.

The problem is not guns. Not swords. Not homemade bombs. Not slingshots; not pocketknives; and not forks stolen from the school cafeteria. The problem is CRACKPOTS AND HOMICIDAL LUNATICS.

Take the criminal element with stolen guns, out of the mix, and firearms owners are THE most law-abiding group in the nation.
