I just did a benefit ride on Saturday. Hadn't rode the TW since then. It's thrown the chain three times this morning on my way to work. I checked tension and lubed the chain within an hour of getting back from this weekends ride, I just think its time for some new parts.

Yep, that rear sprocket looks worn for sure. I'm guess you're gonna need to replace the whole kitten kaboodle (front sprocket, rear sprocket, and chain). My rear sprocket looked similar to yours when I changed my sprockets and replaced the chain this past winter. Oh, and if you do change everything, you might want to have a left side gasket on hand in case you can't salvage the old one. I had to wait a couple extra days cause I didn't have one ahead of time. Then had to get to town and get one from the dealership. Oops!

Good time to do the oil seals while you are working on that side too.

This is what I have ordered so far, will be getting o-ring chain and rear sprocket this weekend. Because this is mostly a highway bike for me, I'm debating on the 14/49 setup or the 15/49. I have a lot of steep grades in my southeastern corner of Dallas, so I don't want to be doing 45mph up some of those hills, but I'd like a little more "keep up with people going the speed limit/pass the slow pokes more easily" speed. 3 or 4 more mph is all I need. Any advice?

If you have a lot of hills, I'd stay with the stock or maybe go to the 14/49. I tried the 14/47 and with my 210 lbs. to haul, it just didn't work well on the hills. 15/49 is close to the same ratio as the 14/47 that I tried.

Thanks for the info. I've already got the new front in stock 14, so I'll give the 49 a go and if its too much for the hills it's a lot easier to change than the front. So I guess it's 14/49 then.

and the chain is shot wow. i have 7500 and its still ok.
I'm not 100% sure, but from all the other evidence noticed on this bike since I've purchased it, I believe this is the original 26 year old chain. The retired gentleman I bought it from used it to get around race tracks on his weekends of Miata racing. Though mechanically inclined, you can tell he didn't give the TW much care besides the battery and fluids. I can't wait to put seals, gasket, f/r sprocket, and new chain on. The yet to be ordered rear sprock and chain will be delayed by a retarded red-light ticket just acquired. :mad:

Splurge on a nicer 520 o-ring chain while you are at it. I had the same problem throwing my chain a couple years ago. The new o-ring is much quieter, smoother and doesn't stretch out as much.

I think Scrambled means a 428 O-ring. With only 14 horsepower, a 520 is overkill.
I vote for D.I.D. Z-ring. I have 5200 miles on mine, put on the day I bought the bike new three years ago, and only barely perceptible wear at this point.
I do take very good care of my chain, cleaning it and lubing it about every 200 miles in the dirt. I expect it will make 10,000.:)
