I notched out my trailer rim to fit the rear hub from @Stufidmotard today. Instead of making a template to guide the hole saw, I decided to use a small tabletop drill press instead. First, I drew a line from the outside edge of the lug holes and marked the center with a punch.

The next step was to clamp up the trailer wheel on the press to drill a 1/4" hole through each mark. The hole saw bit I have uses a 1/4" bit for centering so, these holes would serve the purpose of keeping the hole saw from walking.

I used a 1 1/4" hole saw compared to the 1 3/8" that I believe is most commonly used. I did this for no other reason than that the only one I had was 1 1/4" and it seemed to eyeball up just fine. Using moderate pressure on the drill press and LOTS of cutting oil, the holes were drilled with very little effort.

Lastly, I knocked all of the sharp corners off the cuts with a Dremel tool and then used a file to finish removing material until the hub fit through nicely. All that's left to do now is finish smoothing all the rough cut edges with a half-moon file before applying some cold-blue solution to the bare metal. And to mount the tire, of course!

Yes and no! I opened up the trailer wheel enough to pass the hub through, however, it seems that I never acquired the appropriate lug bolts to actually mount the hub, Doh!

Thanks again, @TW-Brian for sending me over those lug bolts. I am very grateful! Now all that's left to do is to transfer over the 70T sprocket and install this trailer wheel conversion setup onto the bike!
