Hello. I'm having some trouble installing a DRC Edge tail light. I understand (and have read) that the TW200 wiring is different colors than the DRC tail lamp. I've tried it all 6 ways. The brake light comes with a yellow, blue, and red wire. The bike has a blue, black, and yellow wire. If I run blue to yellow, black to black, and yellow to red the tail light comes on and the brake light won't work. The same happens if I run blue to red, black to black, yellow to yellow. All other combinations end up with no light, either with or without using the brakes.

Should the tail light be working with key on, engine off? If anyone has the DRC edge on their TW, would you mind running out to the garage/driveway, and taking a quick look at what wires are hooked up to which?

Thanks a bunch! I should have been in bed 3 hours ago, but this has been driving me crazy!

I can't speak for the light mod, but I would test your bullet connectors for the light, especially if it's old. Pulling them apart for the first time in years is sometimes enough to break the connection in the bullet. If you really had a hard time unplugging them, maybe even trace the wire back to its next joint that you can find and see if it yanked there.

Then there's the offchance that the brake sensors just happened to fail at the right time.

When I thought I had the wires lined up the first time, I soldered the wires. Then after I realized I had it wrong, I cut the solder out, stripped more wire, then simply twisted them together for testing of the other color combinations. This is a brand new tail light. The brake light worked previously, before removal to install this light.

Ok, so I did some more testing.

I figured out the wiring color code.

Bike:

Black=ground

Yellow=brake switch

Blue=tail lamp

When I hook up black and yellow, I have a functioning brake light operated by either brake. The problem is, there is no tail lamp (Big problem at night time).

If I hook up only black and blue, I have a functioning tail light. Nothing happens when either brake is applied.

If I hook up all three to the right places, the light comes on, and doesn't change when I hit the brakes.

I've read that multiple people have had success installing this light on TW. I may have to call DRC up and see if they have any sort of customer service.

In your last scenario (all three - light stays on) I think you have done this;

Light+ -<|----<|--- Ground

Take a 9V square battery and work out what combinations on the DRS operate the tail and brake light.

I am sorry that I don't have the answer you seek, but please keep us updated.

I'm starting to think it is a problem with the light itself. Both power wires do the exact same thing, provide the exact same brightness on the LEDs. There is no difference when connecting both powers at once.

I read one site that claims all of the LEDs come on when running lights are on, and get brighter when the brakes are applied.

Tw yellow -> drc red

Tw blue -> drc yellow

Tw black -> drc blue (black?)

From another forum on drc wiring:

yellow is the tail, red is the brake, and black is the ground.

I don't have a drc, but I have spliced into my brake wiring for external brake lights and accessory relays.

OK I finally got to the bottom of this. I took the light apart and found a wire that must have been crossing with another, or being contacted/shorted at the solder point. I tested it using a nine volt battery while the light was disassembled and it worked perfectly. There was a clear difference between running lamp and brake lamp. I neatly put it back together, making sure to route the wires in a trouble free manner. It's on the bike, and working exactly as it should.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Very cool! So what was the color combination?
