i have a 2004 tw200 with 5k on it and it has the base gasket leak, i picked up the 2010 gaskets and was planning on freshening it up over the winter, while im in there i want to bump up the discplacement, can someone give me a rundown on whats the best way to go about it?? i already have a ttr 225 cylinder, do i need the 225 head? do i need to open up the cases to fit the 225 jug? does the cases need to be broken down to accomplish this? thanks in advance

Yes to all of the above, except the head. Your TW head will work but you might consider the 225 crank while you're at it. It's the same amount of work to take it out to 223 since you'll need to split the cases to open the case mouth.

XT's and TTR's are 70x58.

TW's are 67x55.7.

223cc with the crank, 214cc without.

Ronny has a $troker crank and jug $pacer. I've never really liked him, but he makes a mean sammich..

72 is fine, but it's pretty much maxed out. You can get pistons in half milimeter increments if you want to leave some breathing room for rebuilds.

You will want to go up in the smallest increments possible to allow for future rebores. Going up 2mm is not going to give you more power. Ronnydog has a thread about what all he did to make his 250cc 6-speed. Great stuff! When my warranty runs out in a couple years I will be doing the same.

Oh, and if you want to go stroker there's probably no need for the 225 crank. Ronny can tell you more reliably than I but I think the TW counterweights can accomodate just as much offset as the 225.

Hit up Ronnydog or Macbig. They're probably the only active members here who have built and ridden all of the increments.

Ronnydog first ran the 225 top end on a TW bottom end, then the full 225, followed by the 250 stroker.

Macbig has built many different combos and has dyno charts on them.

I've ridden Ronny's 225. Definitely a game changer. I've never ridden a 214, but those guys will be able to tell you whether or not it's worth the time/munny/effort.
