TW Torque:



I came across this graph showing the TW’s torque & HP characteristics over the RPM range and it got me wondering. Looks like the best torque starts around 5000 RPM and peaks around 7000 RPM. I still am breaking in my TW and also still just getting used to the feel of the bike and being easy on the engine during the break-in period.



With stock equipment,does anyone know what speed that turns out to be for each gear when you hit about 5000 RPM? Also, say at 50-55 MPH what are the RPM’s? Has this already been posted somewhere in this forum?

Thanks, just what I wanted to see. It would be nice to have a tachometer as I'm learning the feel and sound of the bike. That helps a lot. So it looks like 55 MPH in 5th gear = around 7000 RPM. I just really had know idea by listening to the engine what the RPM's were.

You will find that the TW runs out of power before the redline. 55 is no problem in 5th gear as long as you don't hit a hill or a headwind!

I just wanted to figure out the optimal speed for each gear that lends itself to the most torque for climbing etc. From that link you gave me this is what it looks like. Again, it looks like the most torque is generated between 5000 to 7000 RPM.





Gear------MPH @ 5K RPM-----------MPH @ 7K RPM

1 ----------11.3-----------------------------15.8

2-----------17.9-----------------------------25.1

3-----------24.3-----------------------------34.1

4-----------30.8-----------------------------43.2

5-----------39.0-----------------------------54.7



I just put this together for myself; this assumes stock tires and chain sprockets. No one else may even care, but what the heck!

Well, I couldn.t stand it! I bought one of those after-market tachometers (TTO) so I will be better able to get a feel for how much I'm working the engine by being able to see the RPM's I'm at. I just got the tach in the mail yesterday and plan on putting it on over the week end. Has anyone else installed one of those TTO tach's before? Any problems with install or their use?

While reading this post I was just about to advise that I use a TTO from trail tech.....install is easy,just figure out how many winds around the plug wire is best.....I believe I used either 5 or 6 winds. Don't forget about the setting....the sub-par manual advised on this.....I can't recall.The TTO seems to be quite accurate though.
