Its my opinion that paper filters are not the best for dirt bikes. I Would think they are done once they get wet they wouldn't pass air once they wet. I also never used one on a bike so take my opinion for what that's worth

I wouldn't suggest the KN filter.Expensive,harder to properly clean,less filter area(so it seems at least). Use HifloFiltro HFA4202(OEM or even better quality),Yamaha 2JX-14451-00(OEM) or UniFilter NU-3219ST(a bit more free flowing).
The best practice in my opinion is to replace it at manufacturers intervals with one of the foam filters.

My personal experience with K&N filters is if they get wet they will let dirt pass through. I had to rebore the cylinder of my Suzuki and clean all the crud from the carb after the K&N failed. Now I run the stock or a good after market oiled foam filter.
